[Class 18.] A cabinet from which preselected articles can be automatically delivered comprises push knobs 2 at the front of the cabinet controlling escapement mechanism constituted by rotary gates each of which is located at the rear end of an inclined shoot 4 holding a series of articles, e.g. spools of thread, the uppermost of which is retained permanently in position for viewing as a specimen. Sheet-metal trays which slide into slots or guides 18 in the sides of the cabinet have a series of shoots on their upper faces, and several such trays are superposed in the cabinet. The front 13 is glazed and forms part of a lid hinged at 17, and the uppermost article in each shoot is retained in position by a partition 5. The knobs 2 pass through vertical bars on the glazed front and their inner ends engage rods 9 sliding in channel members separating the shoots 4, the rods being so connected to the rotary gates, which comprise arms 3<1>, 3<2> pivoted on a spindle 7 extending across a row of shoots, that when a knob is depressed the arm 3<1> is lowered to allow the lowermost article to escape and the arm 32 rises and supports the other articles. After being released the articles roll into a tray 14 through an opening at the lower end of a glass back 20 to the cabinet. The knobs 2 and rods 9 are returned to their normal positions by springs.
