[Class 40 (v).] In a wireless receiver the volume of selected stations is restricted by a device coupled to the tuning member so that a reduced energy level is applied to any desired stage of the apparatus when the tuning is adjusted to one of the selected stations. The Figure shows a switch the arm 3 of which is arranged to be operated by the tuning condenser spindle and to short-circuit portions of the aerial circuit inductances 5, 6 used for short and long waves respectively. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), damping resistances are connected in parallel to the tuned circuit. Alternatively the volume control may be by a metal screen or short-circuited coil moved relatively to the aerial coupling coil, or may be arranged to include rejector circuits in the aerial circuit. Means may be provided to adjust the energy limiting devices, e.g. the long and shortwave contacts may be adjustably mounted in concentric arcuate slots. Alternatively a number of interchangeable base members carrying contact studs may be provided. The volume control may comprise a potentiometer applied to the lowfrequency amplifier.
