G., Hamilton House, Victoria Embankment, both in London. Aug. 26, 1930, Nos. 20406/31, 20407/31, and 20408/31. Divided on 358,190. [Class 36.] A multi-core 9 comprises conductors 10 elliptical in cross section and insulated with impregnated paper 11 applied in layers. The elliptical configuration of the conductor 10 rotates about the conductor axis along its length as shown in Fig. 4. Each core is covered with a metal-coated paper layer 12 and the cores are laid up with loose worming 13 to form a body of circular section. A circular lead sheath 16 of diameter slightly greater than that of the twisted cores covers the cable. In order to maintain the conductive layer 12 at sheath potential, a metal tape 14 with spring projections 15, Figs. 2 and 3, bridging the clearance space, is wound over the warmed-up cores. The projections 15 may be produced by stamping up the centre part of a tape 14, or a metallized fabric or paper tape may be threaded through by a wire or metal strip. The tape 14 may be applied as an open helix. The clearance space between the sheath 16 and laid-up cores may be filled in part with a gas which may be in flexible-walled containers. The Provisional Specifications describe similar constructions as applied to single core cables. Specification 350,714 is referred to.
