Abstract
359,985. Casing heads for wells. MILDREN, L. J., P.O. Box 1084, Poncacity, Oklahoma, U.S.A. April 28, 1930, No. 13046. [Class 85.] In a casing head for oil &c. wells having resilient packing arranged Wetween upper and lower plates in the head and adapted to be compressed by the weight of the drill pipe or inner casing, the packing comprises a plurality of compressible rings disposed between a lower set of metal rings and an upper set of metal rings. The casing head B, with outlets 14, has a shoulder 17 with its upper surface outwardly horizontal and inwardly bevelled, the shoulder supporting a packing G comprising compressible rings 60 between upper and lower pairs of divided metal rings 50, 51, the rings of each pair having their joints out of line, and the outer rings having reduced annular extensions 50a. An annular groove 21 is provided in the upper end of the casing head and receives packing H. An elevator or spider D for use with the casing head, and supporting tubing F, has a reduced extension 31 entering the casing head to expand the packing G and has a shoulder 32 which subsequently engages the packing H. The elevator or spider may be removed and an oil saver or a well cap may be held on the packing H.
