Abstract
353,890. Coin-freed article delivery apparatus. RICKETS, W. J., 26, Webster Gardens, Ealing, London. Jan. 22, 1930, Nos. 2222, 3343, and 5766. [Class 27.] Articles stored in piles; casings; coin-slit closing devices.-Sample articles corresponding to columns of articles on sale are provided in a display window 1, Fig. 1, and visual indicators, such as lamps, flags, shutters &c., adjacent the samples; change their appearance or become visible when a selecting device 4 is actuated, thereby indicating to a purchaser the article that will be delivered after the insertion of coins in slots 2, 3. The window 1 may serve a shop in normal manner during the day and constitute an automatic vending unit during the night or hours of closure of the shop. Several windows may be employed, each having an indicator 19 pointing out the money insertion slots, controlling the delivery of articles similar to those displayed in that window. The selecting device 4 for the articles comprises an apertured dial which is rotated by the finger up to a stop 5 and actuates switches 29 .. 35, Fig. 2. The switch 29 closes the circuit of a lamp 36 illuminating a label 37 adjacent the sample selected, and energizes a relay 38 controlling all the delivery circuits. The switches 30, 31 short-circuit one or other of coin-actuated contacts 27, 28 according to the price of the article selected. The switch 32 energizes the selected delivery magnet 39, Fig. 3. Switches 33, 34 control magnets 22, 23 operating coin-slit closing devices 20, 21, so that only the correct slits are opened to receive coins, and switch 35 connects a relay 40 to contacts 41, adjacent each delivery magazine. The armature 55 of a magnet 39 pushes out the bottom article to a conveyer belt 48 through a spring-controlled door 56, the catch 57 of which is released by a magnet 58. The belt 48 is driven by a motor 47, the circuit of which is closed by a relay 46 in circuits of the contacts 27, 28. A hold-on winding is provided the circuit of which is broken to stop the motor by the article on the belt engaging a lever 52 and opening contacts 50, 51. The article is delivered to a tray 18. Instead of a dial, a series of pushbuttons controlling banks of switches, Fig. 6 (not shown), may be used, locking means being provided so that only one pushbutton can be operated at a time. When there are a large number of columns, two interlocked selecting dials may be provided. The visual indicator may be a single lamp, Fig. 8 (not shown), adjustable in altitude and azimuth to project a beam of light on the selected article. The lamp is adjusted by levers and cords actuated by cams or tappets on the spindle of the selecting dial. Coin action, weight; coin-discharging mechanism.-The coins close the switches 27, 28 by weight, and are retained in position until a magnet 54 is energized by the article-operated lever 52 closing contacts 51, 53. " Empty machines, locking.-When a column becomes empty, a following weight 59 actuates a switch arm 61, Fig. 3, to close the adjacent contact 41 and energize the relay 40. This relay serves to interrupt all the operative circuits if the empty magazine is selected. Registering.-Relays 42, 43 in the circuits controlled by the switches 33, 34 operate counters.
