Abstract

353,594. Packeting powdered substances. LEADLEY, J. W., 13, Punstock Road, Darwen, Lancashire. May 26, 1930, No. 16107. [Class 94 (i).] In a machine for filling a number of tins or cartons simultaneously with powdered substances, the powder is introduced into a' closed chamber b of substantially flattened oval form. A series of blades d<1> are arranged on a belt passing round drums c, c<1> mounted on vertical axes at each end of the chamber. The blades are inclined so as to press the material through nozzles h in the base of the chamber with a wiping action. The tins &c. C are arranged on tables k which rise so that the edges are pressed against yielding material z surrounding the nozzles. When the state shown in Fig. 3 has been reached, plates tare moved horizontally to cover the nozzles, and the table k is lowered to disengage the tins from the nozzles. Each nozzle, when the tins are in the filling position, projects a suitable distance into the tin, and a vent h<1> facilitates the egress of the displaced air.
