351,243. Theodolites. ASKANIAWERKE AKT.-GES. VORM. CENTRALWERKSTATT DESSAU UND C. BAMBERG - FRIEDENAU, 87, Kaiserallee, Friedenau, Berlin. June 23,1930, No. 19125. Convention date, June 24, 1929. [Classes 97 (ii) and 98 (i).] A theodolite with means for photographically recording the two circular scale readings on the same film as the image of the field of view is characterized by the provision of an optical system for effecting relative rotation of the images of the field of view and of the circular scale readings whereby the two images are always recorded on the film in the same relative position. As shown in the Figure, the image of the field of view produced by the Cassegrain reflecting telescope 6a, 6b is recorded on the film 7 by the side of the image of the readings of the circular scales 14, 16 produced by reflection in the prisms 20, 21, refraction in the prism 35 and reflection in the prism 34. Rotation about the vertical axis 32 does not cause displacement of the images, but rotation about a horizontal axis causes the image of the circular scales to become tilted. This is obviated by causing the prism 35 to be rotated about the horizontal axis by half the angle through which the theodolite is so rotated, effected by means of the gear wheels 39, 38, 37, 36. In this case the film and cross-wires move together with the recording telescope, but the film and grating could both be fixed, in which case the reversing prism is placed in the path of the recording telescope. 1, 2 is a telescopic view-finder.
