342,346. Feedwater supply systems for steam boilers. PENNINGTON, R., 7, Sherdley Road, Crumpsall, and MATHER & PLATT, Ltd., Park Works, both in Manchester. Oct. 31, 1929, Nos. 33080/29, 35111/29 and 41/30. [Class 123 (ii).] In a closed feed-supply system comprising a surge tank e receiving excess water from the condenser a, the centrifugal feed pump d has at all times an unrestricted delivery, and the surge tank is in communication at its upper part with the boiler steam space. Water is delivered to the boiler b through a regulator g by a booster pump f. Feed-heaters may be arranged on the suction and delivery sides of the feed pump. A system may comprise a number of feed pumps connected in parallel to a common surge tank and supplying a number of boilers connected in parallel. A tank may be placed on the suction side of the feed pumps of a number of boilers connected in parallel to receive and equalize the temperature of the feed for all the boilers. In a further modification, the feed pump d, Fig. 6, delivers into a pipe v through which water is drawn from the boiler b by a pump u, which delivers into the surge tank l and then flows into the boiler through a regulator g. The feed pump may deliver directly into the boiler, the pump u circulating water at a constant rate from the boiler through the surge tank and regulator back to the boiler. A circulation pump may be arranged in both the supply and delivery pipes of the surge tank. The water may be heated in the surge tank by an electric heater.
