Abstract

332,315. Ross, J. B. Feb. 1, 1930. Stopping way and steering by plates at sides. -For steering and stopping way a ship 1 is provided with fins 2 hingedly connected to the sides of the hull and mounted so as to be flush therewith when closed. The fin has a slot which is connected by a pin with a lever 6 which passes through a stuffing-box 7 in a casing 3. The rods are adapted to be operated by hydraulic cylinders 9, the control valves of which are actuated by levers 10 from the bridge. As an alternative, actuation may be effected by mechanical or electrical means.
