Portable locks.-A portable lock is provided with an outer rotatable ring casing, and has in one of its flat faces a non-circular opening which admits projections from mortice bolts in the doors so that this face can lie against a bearing surface on each door. The rotatable casing 1 has internal shoulders 2, 3 which receive a flange 5 of an inner casing 6 and a cover plate 4. Screws 7 holding the plate 4 to the inner casing 6 are inaccessible when the lock is in place. The plate 4 may extend beyond the shoulder of the rotatable casing 1 and be bevelled , and both casings 1 and 6 may be of hardened steel. The projections 21, 22 of the sliding mortice bolts 25, 26 closely fit an opening in the plate 4 which rests against semicircular bearing surfaces 33, 34 on the doors in which position a bolt 9 of the lock can be shot into apertures 23, 24 in the projections. The latter, which are thus covered by the lock, may be fixed or movable and notches 31, 32 in the doors to receive the projections may be extended to allow them to be drawn together. If the door edges are rabbeted they are notched to receive the projections. The lock itself may be of the double throw lever type and comprise a bolt 9 integral with or attached to a pin and slot guided tail plate which has notches 13, 13<a> and a stud 17, and is operated by a key. In the locked position of the bolt the stud 17 engages notches 16, 16<a> in tumblers 15 and in the release position it engages notches 18.
