Abstract

319,227. Baker Perkins, Ltd., Baker, G. R., Dumbleton, C., and Paterson, J. C. June 12, 1928. Discharging devices for endless-belt conveyers. - Biscuits or like articles are removed from a conveyer by a suction device which raises them and causes them to adhere to a travelling band which is arranged to pass out of the zone of suction to effect the delivery of the articles by gravity. The invention is described as applied to the discharge of biscuits from an oven conveyer 14 which extends immediately beneath a suction nozzle 15 over the perforated lower wall 16 of which passes a perforated flexible band 10 mounted on rollers 11, 12, 13. The biscuits are lifted from the conveyer 14 by the suction, the band 10 holding them until they have passed the outer edge of the nozzle plate 16 when they drop by gravity on to a conveyer 17 which delivers them to a stacking device. The conveyed 17 passes at its ends over adjustable knife-edges .21, 22 and is driven by the roller 18 which is connected through gearing 24, 25. 26 to the driving wheel 27 of the oven conveyer 14. The band 10 is also driven from the wheel 27 through gearing 28, 29, 30, the sprocket 30 being adjustably mounted in the curved slot 32. The conveyer 17 delivers the biscuits to a device for arranging them in overlapping relationship which comprises overlapping conveyers 34, 41, 46 provided with tensionadjusting means 39, 40, 45, 49 and driven at progressively slower speeds through reduction gearing from a motor 51. To maintain the biscuits in alignment in the various rows, parallel slats 67, 70, 71, are mounted immediately above the conveyers 34, 41, 46, the slats 67 being tapered towards the receiving end of the conveyer 34 which is mounted on a pivoted table 35 so that its height may be adjusted. In the modification shown in Fig. 7, the discharging and stacking devices are combined in a single portable unit mounted on a wheeled frame 92. This figure also shows the application to the discharge of biscuits from trays which are removed from the oven when the baking is completed, the trays being carried beneath the suction nozzle 15 by a conveyer 73 which delivers the empty trays to a transversely disposed roller-way conveyer 74 down which they pass by gravity to a discharge station. The suction band 10, receiving conveyer 17, stacking conveyers 34, 41, 46, and the tray conveyer 73 are all driven from the motor 51 mounted on the framework 92. Specification 247,504, [Class 28 (i), Bread-making &c.], is referred to.
