Abstract

315,944. Alexander, F. May 14, 1928. Paper carriages and supports; platen-shift mechanism; sheet-feeding arrangements.-A shift frame D guided vertically in a carriage C is provided with yielding mounted platen P and cooperating feed-rollers, and means is provided for lifting the platen to release it from the feedrollers. Preferably the platen shaft is mounted in sliding bearings 35 engaging springs 36, and is lifted by means of finger-levers 42 having pins co-operating with the curved ends 39 of levers 40 which engage hubs 38. The platen shaft is guided by slots 14 in the carriage and engages forked levers 11. pivoted on the carriage and connected by a rod 12 engaging a member M connected to a shift key. The carriage-base 5, Fig. 2, is provided with rollers 8 which run in V-guides B on the framework A and are mounted on the bent ends of adjustable plates 7 secured by means of screws 9, alternate pairs of rollers engaging the guides at the top and bottom. Tabulating - mechanism; carriage - releasing arrangements.-A tabulating-stop bar 18, Fig. 2 is detachably mounted in slotted brackets 15 on the carriage C and is retained by means of sliding catches 19 which engage slots in the carriage. A feed-rack 30 is secured to arms 24 pivoted on the stop-bar, and is raised for carriage-release by means of finger-levers 26 having hooks 29 engaging the feed-rack. Margin stops; alarms.-A rack 50, Fig. 1 on the above-described shift frame D supports adjustable stops 53, 54 provided with paper-fingers 52. The stop 54 has lugs co-operating with a pivoted plate 55 on a lever 57 for operating a bell-hammer 61. Line-spacing mechanism.-The platen P is provided at each end with line-spacing mechanism comprising a ratchet-wheel 31 and a pawl 32, the line-spacing lever 33 being adapted to be mounted at either end of the carriage. Detent-rollers 48 engaging the ratchet-wheels are carried by springs and are releasable bv mean, of a rock-shaft 47 operated by finger-levers 46.
