Securing tools to arms; supplying tools from magazines.-A magazine feed for supplying the needles to the tool-holder of a gramophone comprises a frame 32, Fig. 1, carried by the sound box 34 and supporting guides 26, 27 between which the needle magazine 12 is inserted through an end gate 28. The magazine consists of a pair of hinged plates recessed to receive a row, of needles point downwards, and these are pressed towards the frame 32 by a pusher actuated by the uncoiling of a spring mounted on the side of the guides 26, 27, a pivoted spring-pressed catch 23 being provided to hold the pusher in retracted position during charging of the magazine with needles which may be coated with adhesive so that they tend to stick together during charging. The front needle can be pushed down into the holder 45 by a vertical rod 40 moved within the frame 32 by a head 39, the depressed needle acting on the chamfered edge of a spring- pressed sliding or pivoted gripper 48 until it reaches an enlarged recess 51 in the holder, whereupon the spring gripper 48 acts to clamp it. The rod 40 may be retained in position preventing the next needle from being pushed over the tool holder by the engagement of a spring catch 44 on the head 39 with a recess in the frame 32. After a needle has been used it is ejected by depressing the rod 40 before raising it to feed the next needle to the holder. The holder may be adjusted below the needle outlet by mounting it on slotted plates 56 secured by screws to the round box. The needle gripper 48 may be normally operated for release of a needle and insertion of a different one from those in the magazine by rocking a pivoted finger lever 53 having a cam surface engaging a pin on the gripper.
