279,600. Whitehouse, L. F., and Culpan, S. Sept. 21, 1926. Heating by electricity. -A cylinder or casing 20 containing one or more non-metallic resistance bars 6 is surrounded by a jacket 24 connected to the vessel containing the liquid to be heated. The bars 6 are preferably made of carborundum and are resiliently mounted between contacts 7, 8, 9 carried by insulating discs 10, 11, 12 mounted on a rod 18 arranged centrally in the casing and carrying end caps 28, 29. The cap 29 is spring mounted on the rod. Castings 19 arranged on the jacket 24 enable connection to be made with the liquid container.
