Abstract

Wedging or jamming. - In a parallel sluice valve the discs are pressed to and withdrawn from their opposed valve seatings in the closing and opening movements by a pair of cylindrical sleeve segments 12, 13 which have opposed screw-like or cam engagement with telescoping extensions 7, 8 of the valve discs 5. 6. The segments 12, 13 are connected by links 18, 19 and a bar 15 to the operating spindle 14 whereby they are partially rotated in opposite directions to ease the valve discs from their seatings in the initial' lifting action of the spindle 14. The sleeve segments 12, 13 are maintained in operative engagement with the extensions 7, 8 by means of encircling rings 31, 32 and are prevented from lifting in the initial upward movement of the valve spindle by rollers 20, 21, 33, 34 thereon which engage curved casing guide ribs 26, 27 of circularshape. The valve is free to lift when the guiderollers 20, 21 leave the curved ribs and pass on to the straight guide ribs 28, 29.
