Abstract
263,378. Bolton, E. April 23, 1926. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Channels in thrust bearings.-In a vertical or horizontal thrust bearing, each thrust pad A is pivoted on a cradle D by means of a pin C, the pads, pin and cradle having passages for the supply of lubricant under pressure therethrough from the base of the cradle to a recess B along the leading edge of the pad. As shown in Fig. 1, the cradle has a circular seat whereby it is capable of self-adjustment, while in Fig. 3 the cradle is secured in adjusted position by bolts E passing through a projecting flange. By supplying lubricant under pressure prior to starting the machine, the pads are tilted and provided with lubricant films in preparation for motion, the pressure thereafter being reduced.
