Description

A HOLDER FOR A MOBILE TELEPHONE
This invention relates to a holder for a mobile telephone.
Mobile telephones are well known and widely used. They are carried in various ways such for example as in pockets, bags or in a person's hand. Often, the mobile telephones are carried in a way which is not as convenient as would be desirable and/or is not as secure as would be desirable.
It is an aim of the present invention to reduce the above mentioned problems.
Accordingly, in one non-limiting embodiment of the present invention there is provided a holder for a mobile telephone, which holder is for being worn on an arm of a person adjacent their wrist, and which holder comprises: (i) a body portion; (ii) a drawer which is slidably mounted in the body portion and which is for receiving the mobile telephone; (iii) fastener means which is movable between a closed position in which the fastener means keeps the drawer closed in the body portion, and an open position in which the fastener means enables the drawer to be slid to an open position in which the mobile telephone is removable from the drawer; (iv) strap means for retaining the holder on the arm of the person adjacent their wrist, and wherein (v) the drawer has a base, side walls, and an open face which is opposite the base; (vi) the face faces away from the wrist of the person in use of the holder and allows the mobile telephone to be removed from the drawer for use by the person; and (vii) the fastener means is on the body portion and the drawer.
The holder of the present invention is advantageous in that it enables the mobile telephone to be in a position that is convenient for use. In addition, the holder is easily able to be worn and thus does not require the mobile telephone constantly to be held in a person's hand, which can be tiring. In addition, the holder enables the mobile telephone to be more securely held than may be the case if the mobile telephone is in a person's pocket or an open bag. The holder can be worn on either a person's right or left arm adjacent their wrist For persons who like to carry two mobile telephones, then two of the holders may be used, with one of the holders being worn on each of the arms of the person adjacent their wrist.
The holder may be one in which the face is an open face. Alternatively, the face may be a closable face which is closed by a lid_ The lid may be a hinged lid. Other types of lids may be employed.
The holder may include a grip formation for being gripped in order to slide the drawer to the open and the closed positions. The grip formation may be a tab. Other types of grip formation may be employed so that, for example, the grip formation may be a knob or a hook.
The fastener means may be a clip fastener means. Other types of fastener means may be employed so that, for example, the fastener means may be a rotatable fastener means.
When the fastener means is a clip fastener means, then the clip fastener means may be a press-to-unlock clip fastener means. Other types of clip fastener means may be employed.
The strap means is preferably a breathable strap. The breathable strap may enable the holder to be worn in comfort and such as to help to reduce perspiration on the person's skin adjacent the holder. Other types of strap may be employed. The strap may be made of a synthetic fabric material, leather or a metal. When the strap is made of metal, then the strap may be an expandable metal strap.
The strap may comprise adjustable fastener means comprising a matrix of push-to-close and pull-to-open interlocking members. Such a fastener means is preferably that known under the Registered Trade Mark Velcro. Other types of matrices of push-to-close and pull-to-open interlocking members may be employed. Other types of adjustable fastener means may be employed.
The holder may include a charging formation for enabling the charging of the mobile telephone when the holder is not being used. Typically the charging formation will be a male formation. Known formations for charging mobile telephones may be employed.
The holder may include a receiving formation for receiving a spare battery for the mobile telephone.
Embodiments of the invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is an exploded view of a first holder of the present invention; Figure 2 is shows how the holder of Figure 1 is able to be worn on an arm of a person adjacent their wrist.
Figure 3 is like Figure 2 but shows the holder attached to the arm of the person adjacent their wrist; Figure 4 is like Figure 3 but shows how the holder is able to be used; Figure 5 shows a drawer part of the holder and its mobile telephone in a use position shown in Figure 4; Figure 6 shows a second holder of the present invention on an arm of a person adjacent their wrist; Figure 7 shows a third holder of the present invention on an arm of a person adjacent their wrist; and Figure 8 is like Figure 7 and shows the third holder with its mobile telephone in a use position.
Referring to Figures 1 -5, there is shown a first holder 2 for a mobile telephone 4. The holder 2 is for being worn on an arm 6 of a person adjacent
S
their wrist 8. As shown in Figures 1 -5, the holder 2 is worn on the arm 6 of the person such that it covers their wrist 8. In an alternative embodiment of the invention (not shown), the holder 2 may be worn more on the lower forearm of the person and thus further away from their wrist 8.
The holder 2 comprises a body portion 10 and a drawer 12. The drawer 12 is slidably mounted in the body portion 10. The drawer 12 is for receiving the mobile telephone 4.
The holder 2 also comprises fastener means 14. The fastener means 14 is movable between a closed position in which the fastener means 14 keeps the drawer 12 closed in the body portion 10, and an open position in which the fastener means 14 enables the drawer 12 to be slid to an open position in which the mobile telephone 4 is removable from the drawer 12. The closed position is shown in Figures 2 and 3. The open position is shown in Figure 4 and 5.
The holder 2 further comprises strap means 16 for retaining the holder 2 on the arm 6 of the person adjacent their wrist 8.
The drawer 12 has a base 18, side walls 20 and a face 22 which is opposite the base 18. The face 22 faces away from the wrist 8 of the person in use of the holder 2. The face 22 is an open face 22 as can be appreciated from Figure 1. This thereby allows the mobile telephone 4 to be removed from the drawer 12, through face 22, for use by the person.
The fastener means 14 is on the body portion 10 and the drawer 12 The holder 2 includes a grip formation 24 for being gripped in order to slide the drawer 12 to the open and closed positions. The grip formation 24 is a tab.
The fastener means 14 is a clip fastener means 14. The clip fastener means 14 is a press-to-unlock clip fastener means 14.
The strap means 16 is a breathable strap means 16 which is shown schematically in Figure 2 with breathing apertures 26. The strap means 16 comprises adjustable fastener means 28. The adjustable fastener means 28 is made of a matrix of push-to-close and pull-to-open interlocking members sold under the Registered Trade Mark Velcro.
Figures 4 and 5 illustrate how the drawer 12 is able to be slid out from the body portion 10 to an open position, and how the mobile telephone 4 is able to be taken from the drawer 12 and rotated anti-clockwise in the person's left hand 30 to a convenient use position. If the holder 2 is being worn on the person's right arm adjacent their wrist, then the mobile telephone 4 is able to be taken from the drawer 12 and rotated clockwise in the person's right hand to a convenient use position.
Figure 1 shows how the drawer 12 fits into the body portion 10 such that the drawer 12 is slidable between the open and closed positions. The body portion 10 shown in Figure 1 has a base 32, three side walls 34 and an open end 36. The drawer 12 slides backwards and forwards through the open end 36 of the body portion 10.
Referring now to Figure 6, there is shown a second holder 38 of the present invention. Similar parts as in the holder 2 have been given the same reference numerals for ease of comparison and understanding. The holder 2 is such that the face 22 of the drawer 12 is a closable face which is closed by a lid 40. The lid 40 is a hinged lid 40 which is moved between open and closed position by a hinge or hinges (not shown). The lid 40 may be preferred for giving extra protection to the mobile telephone 4.
Referring now to Figures 7 and 8, there is shown a third holder 42 of the present invention. Similar parts as in the holder 2 have been given the same reference numerals for ease of comparison and understanding.
The holder 42 is such that it comprises a first module 44 and a second module 46. The first module 44 may be the same as or similar to the holder 2 and thus the first module 44 contains a mobile telephone 4. The second module 46 is in the form of a container for receiving a back-up battery for the mobile telephone 4 in the first module 44. Alternatively or additionally, the second module 46 may be constructed such that it is able to contain a second mobile telephone. Additionally or alternatively, the second module 46 may contain a charger for charging a battery for the mobile telephone 4.
The holders 2. 38, 42 are easily worn. They are always at a convenient position for use. The face 22 points away from the wrist 8 so that the mobile telephone 4 is always between the wrist 8 and the adjacent side of the person's body. This is a difficult position from which to extract the mobile telephone 4 from the holders 2, 38. 42, and thus the holders 2. 38 provide good security for the mobile telephone 4.
It is to be appreciated that the embodiments of the invention described above with reference to the accompanying drawings have been given by way of example only and that modifications may be effected. Thus, for example, the strap means may be an expandable metal strap or a leather strap instead of the breathable strap means 16. The fastener means 14 may be other than the clip fastener means. Thus the fastener means may be a rotatable fastener means. The grip formation 24 may be other than the illustrated tab so that the grip formation 24 may be a hook or a knob. The holders 2, 38 may be provided with extra components, for example a charging formation for enabling charging of the mobile telephone 4 when the holders 2, 38 are not being worn and/or a receiving formation for receiving a spare battery for the mobile telephone 4. The holder 2, 38, 42 may be produced in various relative dimensions and sizes. Individual components shown in the drawings are not limited to use in their drawings and they may be used in other drawings and in all aspects of the invention. The invention also extends to the individual components mentioned and/or shown above, taken singly or in any combination.
The holder of the present invention may be known by the trade mark "hand i".
