Abstract

The door latch apparatus, particularly for a front door of a vehicle 10, comprises an interior release system to de-latch the apparatus from an interior of the vehicle, a double locking system to prevent operation of the interior release system, a central locking system to prevent de-latching of the apparatus by an exterior release system, and a double locking status sensor to detect whether the double locking system is engaged. The double locking system may comprise a mechanism engageable by an actuator, e.g. comprising an electric motor. The sensor may be a mechanically actuatable electrical sensor. The apparatus may be configured to receive information that a key is in wireless communication range, determine a state of the double locking system using the sensor, disengage the double and central locking systems and, if the key moves away, re-engage the central locking system and return the double-locking system to the determined state.

Description

SENSOR ARRANGEMENT FOR A DOUBLE LOCK STATUS OF A VEHICLE SIDE DOOR LATCH APPARATUS
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present disclosure relates to a sensor arrangement for a double lock system of a vehicle side door latch apparatus. In particular, but not exclusively it relates to the sensor arrangement having a sensor for determining a double lock status of a vehicle front side door.
BACKGROUND
Embodiments of the present invention aim to reduce problems associated with vehicle side door latches.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
One or more embodiments of the invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which FIG. 1 illustrates an example of a 20 vehicle.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
It is an aim of the present invention to provide an improved vehicle side door latch apparatus.
According to an aspect of the invention there is provided a front door latch apparatus for a vehicle 10, the front door latch apparatus comprising: an interior release system configured to enable user de-latching, from an interior of the vehicle 10, of the front door latch apparatus; a double locking system that, when engaged, prevents the interior release system from enabling the user de-latching from the interior, wherein the double locking system is engageable if a central locking system is engaged, and wherein the central locking system, when engaged, prevents an exterior release system of the front door latch apparatus from enabling user de-latching from an exterior of the vehicle 10; and a double locking status sensor configured to detect whether the double locking system of the front door latch apparatus is engaged.
An advantage is that the double lock status switch gives the door module confirmation that the latch has actually achieved the desired double lock or undouble lock status the door module has actioned, allowing the locking system to know the exact state of each and every side door latch within the vehicle locking system.
In some examples, the double locking system comprises a double locking actuator and a double locking mechanism movable by the double locking actuator to prevent the interior release system from enabling the user de-latching from the interior.
In some examples, the double locking actuator comprises an electric motor.
In some examples, the double locking status sensor is configured to detect whether the double locking mechanism is in a position indicative that the double locking system is engaged.
In some examples, the double locking status sensor comprises a mechanically-actuatable electrical sensor, and wherein the double locking mechanism is configured to mechanically actuate the double locking status sensor when the double locking mechanism arrives at the position indicative that the double locking system is engaged.
In some examples, the double locking mechanism comprises a portion configured to, when the double locking mechanism is engaged, interfere with a part of the front door latch apparatus that is configured to be moved by the interior release system to release a claw from a pawl, to prevent said movement of the part by the interior release system.
In some examples, the latch apparatus comprises circuitry configured to: receive information indicative that a key is within wireless communication range; determine a state of the double locking system in dependence on the double locking status sensor, wherein the state is engaged or disengaged; disengage the double locking system and the central locking system in dependence on the key being within the wireless communication range; determine that the key is no longer within the wireless communication range; and re-engage the central locking system and return the double locking system to the determined state, in dependence on the key no longer being within the wireless communication range.
According to a further aspect of the invention there is provided a front door latch apparatus for a vehicle 10, the front door latch apparatus comprising: an interior release system configured to enable user de-latching, from an interior of the vehicle 10, of the front door latch apparatus; a locking system that, when engaged, prevents the interior release system from enabling the user de-latching from the interior; and a locking status sensor configured to detect whether the locking system of the front door latch apparatus is engaged.
According to an aspect of the invention there is provided a vehicle front door comprising the front door latch apparatus.
According to an aspect of the invention there is provided a vehicle 10 comprising the front door latch apparatus.
Features described in the preceding description may be used in combinations other than the combinations explicitly described.
Although functions have been described with reference to certain features, those functions may be performable by other features whether described or not.
Although features have been described with reference to certain embodiments, those features may also be present in other embodiments whether described or not.
Whilst endeavoring in the foregoing specification to draw attention to those features of the invention believed to be of particular importance it should be understood that the Applicant claims protection in respect of any patentable feature or combination of features hereinbefore referred to and/or shown in the drawings whether or not particular emphasis has been placed thereon
