Abstract
259,721. Binks, H. D. Aug. 7, 1925. Air-pressure sprayers.-A stream of liquid is converted into a flat spray by projecting one or more pairs of air jets towards a common point in the axis of the spray and from opposite sides thereof, the air jets being in a plane at rightangles to the plane of flattening and at an acute angle to the liquid jet, the air jets being of substantially the same width as the diameter of the liquid stream at the point of impact. Liquid projected from a central bore 4, Fig. 1, is acted on by air passing through inclined holes or grooves 16, Fig. 2, in a conical member 10 held in a screwed cap 6 by a spring-pressed plunger 12. Air is admitted by passages 26, 9 to a space 13 behind the member 10, whence it passes through grooves 14 in the cap 6 to the inclined passages 16. To prevent the liquid stream from enlarging it may be surrounded by a parallel sheath of air from the space 13 and air from the space 13 and passage 8. The holes or grooves may be in pairs, and may be formed in finger pieces 15 by which the member 10 is rotated to vary the plane of the spray; alternatively the finger pieces may be formed midway between the grooves.
