Description

Luminaire with indicator and antenna The present invention relates to a luminaire, preferably emergency luminaire, with an 5 indicator and an antenna as well as to a lighting system comprising at least such a luminaire.
A luminaire, such as an emergency luminaire, with one or more lighting means for light emission may comprise an indicator comprising one or more indicator lighting means for indicating by light emission information, such as the status of the luminaire, to the outside of the luminaire. Therefore, the indicator of the luminaire is arranged such that its light emission is visible to the outside of the housing of the luminaire and, thus, to the outside of the luminaire. An emergency luminaire is a luminaire configured to emit light in an emergency case, such as mains failure, from an electrical energy storage, such as a battery. The energy storage, e.g. battery, may be rechargeable.
In case the luminaire is an emergency luminaire, such an indicator may be mandatory in order to inform a user about the functionality of the emergency luminaire via the indicator, in particular via the light emission by the indicator.
Often, it is preferred that the luminaire is configured for a wireless communication using an antenna for transmitting and receiving electromagnetic waves. In case, the luminaire comprises such an antenna within its housing, which is usually made of material preventing or damping electromagnetic waves, such as metals, the antenna may be shielded by the housing and, thus, the wireless communication by the antenna may be disturbed or even not be possible.
Providing an opening in the housing at the place (location) of the antenna for overcoming the problem of the antenna shielded by the housing has the disadvantage of reducing the protection offered by the housing against ingress of solid objects, such as dust, ingress of liquids, such as water, and accidental contact. This protection is classified by the IP code (also referred to as "International Protection Rating" or "Ingress Protection Rating") and may be referred to as IP protection. In particular, the IP protection is classified respectively defined by the international industry standard IEC 60529. *
^ * 05 * * * * * 00 * 0000 * * * * * * * * * Therefore, it is an object of the present invention to provide a luminaire comprising an indicator and an antenna, wherein the above problems regarding the IP protection offered by the housing of the luminaire and the wireless communication by the antenna with the outside of the housing of the luminaire are overcome.
These and other objects, which become apparent upon reading the following description, are solved by the subject-matter of the independent claims. The dependent claims refer to preferred embodiments of the invention.
The present invention provides a luminaire, preferably an emergency luminaire, for emitting light. The luminaire comprises - a housing, preferably metal housing, ..**** **** - at least one lighting means, in particular light emitting diode, for providing the * * * * * * light emission of the luminaire, * * * - an indicator comprising at least one indicator lighting means, in particular * * * * * * * * * indicator light emitting diode, configured to indicate by light emission * :* information, in particular a status of the luminaire, to the outside of the housing, and * * * - an antenna for wireless communication between the luminaire and the * * * * * * outside. * *
The indicator and the antenna are arranged together on the outside surface of the 25 housing or at least partly in a first opening of the housing.
In other words, the indicator and the antenna are arranged at the same place respectively position on the outside surface of the housing or at least partly in the first opening of the housing.
Therefore, the present invention proposes to arrange the antenna of the luminaire at the place of the indicator of the luminaire respectively to use the infrastructure, which is already present at the luminaire because of the indicator, for the arrangement of the antenna of the luminaire. Since the indicator has to be visible to the outside of the luminaire and, thus, to the outside of the housing of the luminaire, the antenna arranged together with the indicator of the luminaire is not shielded by the housing of the luminaire. Therefore, the housing of the luminaire does not disturb the wireless communication by the antenna with the outside of the luminaire.
In case the indicator is already arranged at least partly in an opening (first opening) of 5 the housing, the invention proposes to arrange the antenna at the place of the indicator, i.e. to arrange the antenna together with the indicator at least partly in the opening of the housing for the indicator. In case the indicator is arranged on the outside surface of the housing, the invention proposes to arrange the antenna at the place of the indicator, i.e. to arrange the antenna together with the indicator on the io outside surface of the housing. Therefore, according to the invention no additional opening in the housing has to be provided for the antenna and, thus, the above-described problems regarding the IP protection of the housing, when providing an additional opening in the housing, do not occur.

Since the antenna is arranged on the circuit board 11, which is at least partly arranged in the opening 5 of the housing 2, there are no problems with regard to the housing 2 disturbing a wireless communication by the antenna. Moreover, no additional opening in the housing 2 besides the opening 5, already used for allowing the indicator 4 to emit light to the outside, has to be provided for the antenna 4 and, thus, the above-described problems regarding the IF protection of the housing, when providing an additional opening in the housing, do not occur.
On the right side of Figure 5 side-views of a part of the luminaire 1, namely the moulding 12 of the luminaire 1, are shown. The above description of the cross-sectional view of the luminaire 1 on the left side of Figure 5 is correspondingly valid for the side-views of the luminaire 1 on the right side of Figure 5.
Figure 6 shows on the left side a schematic cross-sectional view of a luminaire according to a further embodiment of the invention showing different possible positions at the housing of the luminaire for arranging the indicator and antenna of the luminaire. On the right side of Figure 6 an example of a possible form of the housing of a luminaire according to a further embodiment is shown.
As shown in Figure 6, the luminaire 1 comprises the housing 2, the at least one lighting means 15 for providing the light emission by the luminaire 1, the indicator 3, the antenna 4 and an optical element 16. Different possible positions ci, c2, c3, c4 and c5 at the housing 2 for arranging the indicator 3 and antenna 4 are shown in Figure 6. That is, the reference signs ci, c2, c3, c4 and c5 denote potential mounting locations for arranging/mounting the indicator 3 and antenna 4 at the housing 2 of the luminaire 1.
The inside B of the housing 2 is not shown in Figure 6 and may be implemented as outlined above with regard to the Figures 1, 29 3, 4 and 5 depending on the arrangement of the indicator 3 and antenna 4 at the housing 2. That is, the inside B of the housing 2 is implemented depending on whether the indicator 3 and antenna 4 are arranged on an adhesive first membrane or a circuit board and depending on whether

Therefore, the description of the luminaires i according to Figures 1, 25 3, 4 and 5 is correspondingly valid for the luminaire t of Figure 6, depending on the position ci, c2, c3, c4 and c5 of the indicator 3 and antenna 4 at the housing 2 of the luminaire 1.
As shown in Figure 6, the at least one lighting means 15 is arranged on the outside surface 2a of the housing 2 of the luminaire 1. In this case, the at least one lighting io means 15 are electrically supplied and controlled from the inside B of the housing 2, comprising at least one corresponding element, such as one or more control units and/or one or more lighting means drivers (not shown in Figure 6). The at least one lighting means 15 is in particular arranged on the outside surface 2a of the housing 2 such that the IP protection offered by the housing 2 to elements arranged inside the housing 2 is not negatively affected, i.e. reduced.
The optical element 16 may comprise or correspond to a lens arrangement or diffusor arrangement and is arranged on the outside surface 2a of the housing 2. The optical element 16 is translucent, in particular transparent, and, thus, allows light to pass through it. The optical element 16 may allow electromagnetic waves for the wireless communication by the antenna 4 to pass through it.
As shown in Figure 6, the optical element 16 is arranged on the outside surface za of the housing 2 such that the at least one lighting means 15 is enclosed by the outside surface za of the housing a and the optical element 16 and light emitted by the at least one lighting means 15 is emitted through the optical element 16 to the outside of the luminaire i That is, the optical element 16 constitutes a cover for the at least one lighting means 15, which allows light to pass through it.
The optical element 16 is arranged on the outside surface za of the housing, such that protection against ingress of solid objects, such as dust, ingress of liquids, such as water, and accidental contact is provided for the at least one lighting means 15. That is, the optical element 16 has the advantage of providing IP protection to the at least one lighting means 15.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * In case the indicator 3 and the antenna 4 are arranged inside the optical element 16, in particular at the light emission surface of the housing 2, the optical element 16 also provides IP protection for the indicator 3 and the antenna 4.
In Figure 6, the part of the housing 2 for the light emission by the at least one lighting means 16 corresponds to the part of the outside surface 2a of the housing 2 on which the at least one lighting means 15 is arranged. The outside surface 2a of the housing 2 on which the at least one lighting means 15 is arranged may also be referred to as a light emission surface of the housing 2. Thus, as shown in Figure 6, the light emission io surface of the housing 2 is covered by the optical element 16.
In the following, the different possible positions ci, C2, C3, c4 and c5 for arranging the indicator 3 and antenna 4 together at the housing 2 are described: * * * 0 15 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * The indicator 3 and antenna 4 may be arranged together in an opening 5 of the housing 2 outside the optical element 16. This is shown in Figure 6 at the position ci of the housing 2.
Alternatively, the indicator 3 and the antenna 4 may be arranged together in an opening 5 of the housing 2 inside the optical element 16. This is shown in Figure 6 at the position c2 of the housing 2.
Alternatively, the indicator 3 and the antenna 4 may be arranged on the outside surface 2a of the housing 2 such that the at least one lighting means 15 is at least partly arranged between the outside surface 2a of the housing 2 and the indicator 3 and the antenna 4. That is, the indicators and the antenna 4 may be arranged on the outside surface 2a of the housing 2 such that the indicator 3 and the antenna 4a are arranged on the at least one lighting means 15. This is shown in Figure 6 at the position c3 of the housing. In this case, the antenna and the indicator may be made at least partly of a translucent, in particular transparent, material.
Alternatively, the indicator 3 and the antenna 4 may be only partly arranged at the at least one lighting means 15 (not shown in Figure 6). Therefore, the indicator 3 and the antenna 4 may be partly or fully arranged at the light emission surface of the housing 2.
In case the indicator 3 and the antenna 4 are arranged on the adhesive first membrane adhered to the outside surface 2a of the housing 2 (as shown in Figure 1), the adhesive first membrane may be adhered on the outside surface 2a of the housing 2 such that the at least one lighting means 15 is at least partly arranged between the outside surface 2a of the housing 2 and the adhesive first membrane (not shown in Figure 6). The adhesive first membrane may be a flexible membrane. In particular, the adhesive first membrane may be partly or fully adhered to the at least one lighting means 15. In this case, the adhesive first membrane may be translucent, in particular transparent.
In case the indicator and the antenna are arranged on the circuit board (first circuit board), as shown in Figures 3, 4 and 5, the at least one lighting means 15 may be arranged on the circuit board (not shown in Figure 6).
Alternatively, the indicator 3 and the antenna 4 may be arranged together on the 15 outside surface 2a of the housing 2 inside the optical element 16, but not at the position of the at least one lighting means 15. This is shown in Figure 6 at the position c4 of the housing.
Alternatively, the indicator 3 and the antenna 4 may be arranged together on the 20 outside surface za of the housing 2 outside the optical element 16. This is shown in Figure 6 at the position c5 of the housing.
On the right side of Figure 6 an example of a possible form (shape) of the housing 2 of a luminaire 1 according to a further embodiment is shown. The housing 2 of the luminaire i shown on the right side of Figure 2 has such a form (shape) that the at least one lighting means 15 is arranged in a cavity formed on three sides by the outside surface 2a of the housing 2. The optical element 16 is arranged such that it closes the cavity. Nevertheless, the at least one lighting means 15 is arranged on the outside surface za of the housing 2. In other words, on one side of the housing 2, at least a part of the outside surface za of the housing 2 is recessed with respect to the rest of the outside surface za, wherein the at least one lighting means 15 is arranged on the recessed part of the outside surface za of the housing 2.
The indicator and antenna of the luminaire 1 may be arranged in the housing 2 of the 35 luminaire shown on the right side of Figure 6 as described above with respect to the luminaire 1 shown on the left side Figure 6. Therefore, the above description of the ***0 * * * *** ** * * * * * ** ** * * * * * ** O: * cross-sectional view of the luminaire 1 on the left side of Figure 6 is correspondingly valid for the luminaire 1 shown on the right side of Figure 6. **** * *
