258,196. Hoover, Ltd., (Assignees of Smellie, D. G., White, H. B., and Nulsen, M. E.). Jan. 12, 1926, [Convention date]. Carpet-sweepers.-A rotor for use in a vacuum cleaner is formed with elongated rigid projections on its cylindrical surface. Fig. 1 shows a rotor with a helical rigid projection 29 covering half the diameter of the cylinder and joined at its ends to a second (unseen) similar projection. Between the two, brushes 22 are inserted in grooves in the cylinder body. Segmental rings 30 limit the rise of the carpet under suction. Air enters through holes 32 in caps 31 provided at the ends of the rotor, which is hollow, and prevents lodgment of dust. A pawn 43, Fig. 8, carried in the rotor engages a ratchet wheel 44 in the shaft, and prevents rotation in the wrong direction.
