Abstract

A removable electronic control for an electric vehicle can monitor the vehicle’s battery voltage, current and historical charging data, and has a means of communication such as GPRS. The control can communicate battery data to a computer or mobile device and can also send geographical positional data relating to the vehicle. The removable control may be carried by a person and used to track that person and may have a switch to request help. The control may have various features including: sending warnings if the battery voltage falls below a threshold; storing accumulated values of running times of the vehicle; identifying and reporting malfunctioning battery chargers; sending emergency messages; emitting an audio or visual alarm to alert a user that an emergency message has been received; a tilt device to detect if a vehicle has fallen over; detecting unauthorised disconnection of the control. The unit may consist of an enclosure 1, with mounting brackets 2, warning lights 3 and call switch 16.

DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to an electronic control system that is fitted to and connected to a powered vehicle such as a Powered wheelchair, scooter, golf buggie, motor bike and similar powered vehicles, and can be easily disconnected from the vehicle and reconnected as when required.
The control has connectivity to the vehicles battery system either directly or indirectly and is secured to the vehicle.
The control is designed to monitor the vehicles battery voltage and current and to store this information within the controls processor. A means of communication such as GPRS is also fitted to the control with the ability to not only communicate the related information to a computer or mobile device such as a smart phone, but for the computer or smartphone to communicate to the Vehicles electronic control system.
The GPRS also has the ability to send geographical positional data relating to the vehicle should the vehicle get lost or stolen.
The electronic control system will also be fitted with a means of disabling the battery system remotely should the vehicle be stolen, or the user is not adhering to the purchase and or the leasing agreement of the vehicle.
A tilt switch fitted to the control will identify if the vehicle has fallen over, and the GPRS can immediately report this event as well as the geographical position of the event.
An emergency call system can be included by means of a hard wired switch or by a signal from a Bluetooth device, for example the user carrying an alarm activation device.
In accordance with the present invention there is a powered vehicle to which is fitted an electronic control system ( ELS) and is connected directly or indirectly to the vehicles battery system.
description of the ELS is described by use of the attached drawings.
Sketch 1 shows the ELC consisting of an enclosure (1) with Mounting brackets (2) and warning lights (3) to indicate and advise any problems with the ELC, and a Call Switch (16) to send a help message and satellite location.
Sketch 2 shows the enclosure (1) into which is fitted a printed circuit board (4) which contains a microprocessor (5) for memory and control means, a communication means (6) such as GPS, GSM, or GPRS by way of a SIM CARD, and or Bluetooth technology. (7)
A back up battery (8)) is also fitted to the ELS which will give power to the ELC should the ELC be disconnected from the vehicles battery.
A connection for a relay type device (9) for disabling the battery power means, and a connection tor an emergency Call Switch (ll)and Indicator lights (3) fitted to the ELS will advise any problems with the ELS.
The control also contains a means of reading the voltage and current of the vehicles battery.
Sketch 3 shows the ELC enclosure (1) with mounting brackets(2) which slide into acceptance bracket (12). Below the enclosure is shown the acceptance bracket (12) which has holes (13) which allows the acceptance bracket to be secured to a bulkhead (14). The acceptance bracket is fitted with a mating electrical connector (15) which allows connectivity between the acceptance bracket and the ELS enclosure.
Below the acceptance drawing is a top view of the acceptance bracket (12) and the bulkhead(14) to which the acceptance bracket is affixed.

Claims (10)
