Description

Method for Providing User-Specific Settings in a Vehicle The invention relates to a method for providing at least one user-specific setting of at least one component of a vehicle according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
Such a method for providing at least one user-specific setting of at least one component of a vehicle, in particular a passenger vehicle, is known from US 2014/0163778 Al. In said method, a mobile device of a user is connected to the vehicle. Moreover, user-specific data stored in a memory and associated with the mobile device connected to the vehicle are retrieved. Therein, the user-specific data are stored in a central data processing device and transmitted to the vehicle so that the user-specific data are retrieved by the vehicle. Furthermore, the user-specific setting is provided on the basis of the retrieved user-specific data. In other words, the at least one component of the vehicle is operated or adjusted on the basis of the user-specific data.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a method of the previously mentioned kind, by means of which the at least one component of the vehicle can be customized in a particularly easy and comfortable way.
This object is solved by a method having the features of patent claim 1. Advantageous embodiments with expedient developments are indicated in the other patent claims.
In order to provide a method of the kind indicated in the preamble of patent claim 1, by means of which method the at least one component can be customized in particularly easy and comfortable way, according to the present invention, the method comprises providing access data by a main device, the access data comprising an access code associated with the mobile device. The method according to the present invention further comprises connecting the mobile device to the vehicle on the basis of the provided access code so that the user-specific setting is provided on the basis of the access code.
By providing the access data, in particular the access code, a connection between the mobile device and the vehicle or an access to the vehicle can be granted to the mobile device so that the at least one component can be adapted to the user of the mobile device before the user actually enters the vehicle. This means the user-specific setting is already provided and set when the user enters the vehicle so that the user can start driving the vehicle without any time delay.
For example, the main device is a further mobile device which belongs to an administrator, in particular the owner of the vehicle. The administrator is a person which can grant access to the vehicle to any mobile device and its user by providing access data for the respective mobile device. Thereby, for example, the administrator can give access to the vehicle to any of their family members.
Thereby, any user of a mobile device to which access to the vehicle was granted by the main device and, thus, by the administrator can adjust the at least one user-specific setting according to their individual needs so that the component can be adapted to the respective user in a particularly easy and comfortable way. In other words, the vehicle can be customized immediately after a confirmation on the mobile device. This means, for example, the user-specific setting can be set upon connecting the mobile device to the vehicle at least substantially instantaneously.
For example, the mobile device is connected to the vehicle upon entering the access code into the mobile device via a user interface of the mobile device. Upon entering the access code into the mobile device, for example, a software application running on the mobile device communicates with an electronic control unit (ECU) of the vehicle so as to connect the mobile device to the vehicle. Then, the ECU retrieves the user-specific data and provides the user-specific setting on the basis of the user-specific data. Thereby, for example, the at least one component, in particular the vehicle, can be customized and, thus, adapted to different users, in particular family members of the administrator. For example, the user can select their preferred seat in the vehicle via the mobile device so that the preferred seat is adjusted on the basis of the retrieved user-specific data upon connecting the mobile device to the vehicle.
For example, the at least one component is a seat of the vehicle. By providing the at least one user-specific setting the seat is moved or adjusted into a position associated with the user-specific setting to fit the body shape and the preferences of the respective user, in particular family member. For example, the user-specific data are stored in a memory of the vehicle. Upon connecting the mobile device to the vehicle, for example, the user-specific data are retrieved by the electronic control unit of the vehicle so that the electronic control unit can provide the user-specific setting on the basis of the user-specific data.
By using access data and an access code for providing the user-specific setting, a particularly high security, in particular data security, can be realized since access to the vehicle can be restricted to mobile devices to which access data are granted. In other words, unwanted connections between the vehicle and unwanted mobile devices to which access has not been granted can be avoided. Moreover, access to the vehicle can be controlled particularly easily by the administrator by providing only desired mobile devices with respective access data. Moreover, driving patterns and/or driving behaviours as well as individual preferences and, thus, user-specific settings can be obtained by the method according to the present invention particularly easily.
Preferably, the mobile device is wirelessly connected to the vehicle. Thereby, the user-specific setting can be provided in the vehicle in a particularly comfortable way.
For example, the component operable or adjustable on the basis of the user-specific data can be a seat, a window, a roof, a steering wheel, an audio system or a video system of the vehicle.
Further advantages, features, and details derive from the following description of a preferred embodiment as well as from the drawing. The features and feature combinations previously mentioned in the description as well as the features and feature combinations mentioned in the following description of the figures and/or shown in the figures alone can be employed not only in the respective indicated combination but also in any other combination or taken alone without leaving the scope of the invention.
The drawing shows in the only figure a schematic perspective view of a vehicle in the form of a passenger vehicle having at least one component, wherein at least one user-specific setting of the at least one component is provided upon connecting a mobile device of a user to the vehicle.
The only figure shows in a schematic perspective view a vehicle in the form of a passenger vehicle 10 which comprises a plurality of components such as seats arranged in the interior of the passenger vehicle 10, side windows 12, exterior rear-view mirrors 14 arranged outside of the interior, a sunroof 16, an audio system and a video system. All of these components can be adjusted and, thus, adapted to respective persons using the passenger car 10 or sitting in the interior. For example, the seats arranged in the interior can be moved and, thus, adapted to the body shape of the user, in particular the driver of the passenger vehicle 10.
The figure also shows mobile devices 18 and 20 which are configured as, for example, smartphones or mobile phones. The mobile device 18 is associated with a first user which is also referred to as an administrator or owner of the passenger vehicle 10. The mobile device 20 is associated with a second user which is, for example, a family member of the first user. The respective mobile device 18 and 20 is equipped with radio technology so that the respective mobile device 18 and 20 can be wirelessly connected to the vehicle (passenger vehicle 10) which is also equipped with radio technology.
In the following, a method for providing at least one user-specific setting of at least one of the components of the passenger vehicle 10 is described. In a first step of said method access data are provided by the mobile device 18 and, thus, by the administrator, the access data comprising an access code associated with the mobile device 20 and, thus, the second user. As illustrated by directional arrows 22 and 24, the access data are, for example, transmitted to the mobile device 20 and the passenger vehicle 10 via radio technology. By providing the access data, the administrator provides the mobile device 20 and, thus, the second user with a possibility to connect the mobile device 20 to the passenger vehicle 10 so that the at least one component can be customized and thereby adapted to the second user.
As illustrated in the figure by a directional arrow 26, the mobile device 20 is connected to the passenger vehicle 10 on the basis of the provided access code. For example, the second user enters the access code into the mobile device 20 via a user interface of the mobile device 20. Upon entering the access code into the mobile device 20, the mobile device 20 is connected to the passenger vehicle 10. For example, login data are transmitted from the mobile device 20 to the passenger vehicle 10. In an electronic control unit of the passenger vehicle 10, the transmitted and received login data are compared with the provided access data. lithe received login data match the provided access data, access to the passenger vehicle 10 is granted to the mobile device 20 so that the mobile device 20 is connected to the passenger vehicle 10 and can communicate with the passenger vehicle 10.
Upon connecting the mobile device 20 to the passenger vehicle 10, user-specific data stored in a memory and associated with the mobile device 20 are retrieved. For example, the user-specific data are stored in a memory of the passenger vehicle 10 and retrieved by the electronic control unit. Upon retrieving the user-specific data, the user-specific setting is provided on the basis of the retrieved user-specific data in such a way that the at least one component is operated or adjusted by the electronic control unit on the basis of the user-specific data. Thereby, for example, the seat arranged in the interior of the passenger vehicle 10 can be moved into a position preferred by the second user.
For example, the administrator has four family members A, B, C and D. By providing access data to the mobile device 20 the administrator can authorize, for example, the family member A to use the passenger vehicle 10 through the access code which is, for example, a PIN (Personal Identification Number). For example, the family member A is the driver of the car and can in turn authorize the family members B, C and D by providing access data to their respective mobile devices. The family members B, C and D can select their desired seats and, thus, seating locations in the interior via the respective mobile devices of the family members B, C and D. Once the family members B, C and D have selected their seating preferences, the respective seat is automatically adjusted and thereby adapted to the respective family members B, C, D. For example, the family member D is a child whose selected seat is near a side door of the passenger vehicle 10. In this case, a child lock feature is automatically activated so that the child cannot open said side door. Moreover, a window activation switch is locked so that the child cannot open the window of said side door.
Thereby, a particularly high safety can be automatically realized. Furthermore, an infotainment system comprising an audio system and a video system as well as seat height, knee room adjustment etc. can be adapted to the child and, thus, to their age.
For example, the respective user can interact with the respective mobile device via a software application running on the respective mobile device. Via the software application which is also referred to as an application or an app, the user can set their respective, preferred and user-specific setting. There are many features in a passenger vehicle that can be customized, in particular on the basis of the seating location which can be selected via the app.
Since the mobile device 20 can be wirelessly connected to the passenger vehicle 10, the user-specific setting, in particular, the seating location can be selected outside the passenger vehicle 10, for example, when the second user is at home or in the office or any other location and/or while having, for example, breakfast, dinner or watching television. The passenger vehicle 10 can be customized immediately after a confirmation on the mobile device 20, i.e. after setting the at least one user-specific setting and connecting the mobile device at least indirectly to the passenger vehicle 10. Once the family members approach the passenger vehicle 10, the passenger vehicle 10 with the provided user-specific settings will be ready without any time delay. For example, safety features and/or ergonomics can be adapted as well on the basis of the user-specific data.
