Description
Load Limitation Device for a Child Seat The invention relates to a load limitation device for a child seat for a vehicle according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
Such a load limitation device for a child seat for a vehicle is known from US 2010/0109217 Al. The load limitation device comprises an anchor to which a tether of the child seat is connectable. For example, the anchor has a looped shaped connecting member to which a hook of the tether can be attached. Thus, the tether is connected to the anchor by form fit connection. Furthermore, the load limitation device comprises a retainer for guiding the anchor. The anchor is moveable in relation to the retainer.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a load limitation device by means of which a child occupant of the child seat can be retained particularly advantageously and loads acting on the child occupant due to an accident can be kept particularly low.
This object is solved by a load limitation device for a child seat for a vehicle having the features of patent claim 1. Advantageous embodiments with expedient and non-trivial developments of the invention are indicated in the other patent claims.
In order to provide a load limitation device of the kind indicated in the preamble of patent claim 1, by means of which a child occupant of the child seat can be retained particularly advantageously and loads acting on the child occupant can be kept particularly low, according to the present invention the retainer has at least two holding portions separated from each other at least partially by at least one wall of the retainer. The anchor is connected to at least one guiding element. For example, the anchor and the guiding element are formed in one piece.
The guiding element is arranged in a first one of the holding portions. Moreover, the guiding element is capable of being moved from the first holding portion into the second holding portion due to a load exerted by the tether via the anchor on the guiding element in the event of an accident thereby deforming and/or destructing the wall. In other words, loads can be transferred from the tether to the anchor in the event of an accident, wherein the accident causes, for example, a movement of a child occupant of the child seat and/or the child seat. The loads transferred to the anchor are transferred from the anchor to the guiding element. If the loads exerted on the guiding element are below a predeterminable threshold, the guiding element is supported on the wall so that the guiding element is prevented from moving from the first holding portion into the second holding portion.
If the loads exerted on the guiding element exceed the threshold the wall is deformed and/or destructed by the guiding element since the loads are transferred from the guiding element to the wall. As a result of the destruction and/or deformation of the wall the guiding element is moved from the first holding portion into the second holding portion by the loads acting upon the guiding element.
By means of this process the child occupant can be retained and loads exerted by the tether on the child occupant, in particular the chest of the child occupant, during a forward movement caused by an accident can be kept particularly low since the movement of the guiding element, and thus, the tether connected to the guiding element via the anchor can happen in a controlled manner.
The movement of the guiding element from the first holding portion into the second holding portion can be controlled or adjusted by, for example, the thickness of the wall, the thickness extending between the holding portions. Additionally or alternatively, the movement can be controlled or adjusted by the material the wall is made of. For example, the wall, in particular, the retainer is made of a plastic material, in particular an elastomer.
In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the guiding element is made of a metallic material, in particular steel. The retainer can be mounted on, for example, a seat, in particular a backrest of a seat, of the vehicle. Alternatively, the retainer can be mounted on the body in white of the vehicle.
Further advantages, features, and details of the invention derive from the following description of a preferred embodiment as well as from the drawing. The features and feature combinations previously mentioned in the description as well as the features and feature combinations mentioned in the following description of the figures and/or shown in the figures alone can be employed not only in the respective indicated combination but also in any other combination or taken alone without leaving the scope of the invention.
The drawing shows in: Fig. 1 a schematic sectional side view of a load limitation device for a child seat in a vehicle, the load limitation device comprising an anchor to which a tether of the child seat is connectable and a retainer for guiding the anchor being moveable in relation to the retainer, wherein the retainer has at least two holding portions separated from each other at least partially by at least one wall of the retainer, the anchor being connected to at least one guiding element arranged in a first one of the holding portions, the guiding element being capable of being moved from the first holding portion into the second holding portion due to a load exerted by a tether via the anchor on the guiding element in the event of an accident thereby deforming and/or destructing the wall; Fig. 2 a schematic sectional top view of the load limitation device; and Fig. 3 a schematic isometric view of the load limitation device.
Fig. 1 shows a load limitation device 10 for a child seat 12 for a vehicle. In Fig. 1 the child seat 12 is shown partially. Moreover, a backrest 14 of a seat of the vehicle can be seen.
The seat further comprises a seat part which cannot be seen in Fig. 1, the backrest 14 being connected to the seat part. As can be seen from Fig. 1, the child seat 12 is arranged on the seat part and supported on the backrest 14. The vehicle is designed as a passenger vehicle, wherein the load limitation device 10, the seat and the child seat are arranged within the interior of the passenger vehicle. The load limitation device 10 comprises an anchor l6to which a tether in the form of atop tether 18 of the child seat 12 is connected. Since the load limitation device 10 is attached to the backrest 14 or the body in white of the passenger vehicle, the child seat 12 is attached to the backrest 14 or the body in white via the load limitation device 10 as well.
The anchor 16 is connected to a guiding element in the form of a pin 20 via at least one coupling element 22. For example, the coupling element 22 is rigid. For example, the coupling element 22 is a pin. Alternatively, the coupling element 22 can be flexible. The pin 20 is made of steel. The load limitation device 10 further comprises a housing or a retainer 24. For example, the retainer 24 is made of a plastic material and attached to the backrest 14 of the body in white.
As can be seen from Figs. 1 and 3, the retainer 24 has lateral guides 26 along which the pin 20 can be moved since the pin 20 is arranged at least partially in the guide 26. Thus, the retainer 24 serves for guiding the pin 20. Figs. 1 to 3 show the load limitation device in an initial state. Since the pin 20 is guided by means of the guides 26 or along the guides 26, the anchor 16 can be guided by means of the guides 26 and, thus, by means of the retainer 24 via the coupling element 22 and the pin 20.
The guides 26 comprise holding portions in the form of slots Si, 52, S3 and S4 respectively. The slots S1-S4 are separated from each other at least partially by walls 27, 28 and 30. The slot 51 is separated partially from the slot S2 by the walls 27. The slot S2 is separated from the slot S3 partially by the walls 28 and the slot S3 is separated partially from the slot S4 by the walls 30. As can be seen from Fig. 1 and 3, there is a gap between the walls 27, between the walls 28 and between the walls 30. The outer circumference of the pin 20 is bigger than the respective gaps.
In the event of an accident, for example, a frontal impact crash, the child seat 12 and the child occupant of the child seat 12 are accelerated towards the front of the vehicle. The top tether 18 serves for retaining the child seat 12 and the child occupant, wherein the load limitation device 10 serves for keeping loads acting on the child occupant, especially on the chest of the child occupant particularly low.
Since the child seat 12 and the child occupant are accelerated towards the front of the vehicle, a load is exerted on the top tether 18 by the child seat 12 and the child occupant.
This load is transferred from the top tether 18 to the anchor 16, the coupling element 22 and the pin 20. If the load transferred to the pin 20 is below a predeterminable threshold, the pin 20 is supported on the walls 27 which prevent the pin 20 from moving from the slot Si into the slot S2. Since the pin 20 is supported on the walls 27 the load exerted on the pin 20 is transferred to the walls 27. Since the outer circumference of the pin 20 is bigger than the gap between the walls 27 the pin 20 cannot move from the slot Si into the slot S2.
If the load exceeds the predeterminable threshold, the walls 27 are deformed and/or destructed by the pin 20 so that the pin 20 moves from the slot Si in the longitudinal direction of the passenger vehicle towards the front into the slot S2. Having moved into the slot S2 the described process can happen again. This process can happen until the pin 20 reaches the slot 34. By moving from the slot Si to the slot S2, and for example, to the slot S3 and the slot S4 thereby deforming and/or destructing the respective walls 27, 28, 30 the load acting on the child occupant and the pin 20 can be transformed into deformation energy and/or destruction energy.
Thereby, the movement of the pin 20 and, thus, the movement of the top tether 18 can be controlled and the load acting on the child occupant can be kept particularly low simultaneously. In other words, the top tether 18 can move or extend in a controlled manner thereby keeping the loads acting on the chest of the child occupant during forward movement particularly low. Thus, by means of the load limitation device 10 the thorax region of a child sitting in the child seat 12 can be protected. Moreover, the child occupant can be decelerated in a very small space by means of the load limitation device 10.
Said predeterminable threshold can be predetermined by the material of the respective walls 27, 28, 30 and/or by the thickness of the walls 27, 28, 30, the thickness extending between the slots Si and S2, the slots S2, S3 and the slots S3, S4 respectively. Fig. 1 and 2 show a component 32 of the passenger vehicle. For example, the component 32 is a component of the body in white of the vehicle. According to Fig. 2, the retainer 24 is attached to the component 32 by means of screws 34.
