Abstract

A method, comprising: obtaining information related to the speed of the user equip­ment in at least one first radio access technology 214; and applying the obtained information in a second radio access technology 220 upon changing to the second radio access technology (such as following a handover from the first RAT to the second RAT, inter-RAT handover), wherein the second radio access technology is different from the present first radio access technology. The information related to the speed of the user equipment may comprise a number of cell changes, such as number of handovers, cell change order or cell reselections. Further when the speed information is derived from the number of cell changes this may be calculated using a recording period and use of a sliding time window. The information related to the speed of the user equipment may comprise a mobility state of the user equipment (Figure 4), which may be a quantized mobility state. The mobility state information may be passed from the first radio access technology node to the second radio access technology node and used by the second radio access technology node as an initial mobility state for the user equipment in the second radio access technology network (Figure 4).
