Abstract

A car that can be flown in the air includes a just engine fitted at the rear of the car with the air intake face of the engine facing backwards while the middle top of the exhaust face of the engine is hinged to the middle rear of the roof of the car. To fly the car the whole jet engine is rotated upwards at the hinge by hydraulic means or otherwise such that when fully rotated the jet engine is now on the car roof with the air intake face of the engine now facing forwards. By rotating the jet engine vertically the car can be flown upwards and forwards and by rotating the jet engine horizontally when it is on the roof the car can be steered, made to reduce speed or even flown backwards.

Description

I
The Flying car The problem with all existing means of transport is that every one so far has got a big handicap. Aeroplanes, for example, usually need a runway. These are usually far from peoples starting or final destinations. Helicopter are relatively slower than aeroplanes and the length of the motor blades makes it impractical to park next to one's house or final destination. Cars are more convinienttut they need roads and bridges which are very expensive to construct and maintain.. Cars are also slower and versatile but waste fuel by using long and winding roads to get to their final destination. Most of the parking congestion from cars is because cars are not flexible enough to be parked in places such as a flat roof or a rear garden because they always need a road. It is because of all these handiOaps that the flying car was invented.
This is a car designed to be driven on the ground like a car and flown in the air like a plane yet small and compact enough to be parked in a garage. It is capable of short or even vertical take off and landing: It can fly forwards, backwards, sideways, upwards. The flying car is basicaly a lightweight vehicle like car with a light car engine in the front bonnet and a jet engine in storage at the rear end of the vehicle. Fig 1 shows the side-view of the flying car with the jet engine in storage. Fig 2 shows the rear view of a flying car with the engine in storage. Fig 3 shows the front view of a flying car with the jet engine in storage: The jet engine is fitted in such a way that when in storage, the air intake side of the jet engine is facing the rear while the top part of the exhaust end of the jet engine is hinged on the middle rear end of the car roof.
The car is driven like any other car using the front (non let) engine whole. To fly the car the jet engine is rotated upwards at the hinge by hydraulic or any other means until the jet engine is out of the storage position. The engine is then switched on. The jet engine is operated remotely from inside the car. A fuel hose across the hinge supplies the jet engine with fuel from the car fuel tank. There are also cables or even hydraulic hoses to operate the jet engine. Fig 4 shows the stages of flying the car. The maximum forward motion is achieved when the jet engine is fully rotated to sit on the car roof. In this the air intake face of the jet engine will be facing the front of the vehicle. Fig 5 shows the front view of a flying car flying forwards.
When the jet engine is on the roof of the car it can also be rotated left and right. This is one way of steering the vehicle in the air. When it is rotated 189 degrees the jet engine will be facing backwards. This may be used to slow down the forward motion of the vehicle or even fly the car backwards. Fig 6 shows the position of the jet engine when flying sideways and when flyting backwards.
Some times the jet engine will also have short wings which operate like those of an aeroplane. This helps with the lift when in flight and allows the jet engine to be rotated fully horizontal for faster speed. It can also help to put the wheels firmly on the ground when driving. Fig 7 shows a flying car with wings.
A flying car can also be steered in the air by turning the ground steering wheel while in the air. A flying car can be as fast as a jet plane in the air and can have a parachute to bring the whole car and its occupants down safely in case of an emergency. The semi circular roof of the design shown helps reduce the drag and noise.
Advantages of a flying car 1. They can fly in the air as well as drive on the road.
2. They are as fast as a jet plane in the air.
3. They can be faster than the cars on the ground. The jet engine can also be used to boost the speed when driving on the motorway.
4. Can be relatively easier to fly planes or helicopters.
5. They are capable of vertical take off and landing.
6. Can fly forwards, sidesways and backwards.
7. Its very economical by taking short cuts.
8. It helps reduce road conjestion 9. Helps reduce parking conjestion because it can be packed on fiat roofs, rear garden ect.

Claims (8)

  1. Claims 1. A light weight vehicle eg. a car which can be driven on the road as well as flown in the air-the flying being made possible by a jet engine located at the rear of the vehicle in such a way that when the engine is in storage the air intake face of the engine is facing the rear and the exhaust end of the engine is hinged at the middle top section to the middle rear of the car roof and when the engine is in use the whole engine is rotated upwards at this hinge until when fully rotated the engine is seated on the roof of the vehicle with the air intake face of the engine now facing the front and the hinge is now at the bottem of the exhaust face of the engine.
  2. 2. A vehicle as in claim I where the jet engine when on the roof can be rotated left or right such that the air intake side of the jet engine can face the side of the car or even the rear of the car.
  3. 3. A vehicle as in the claim I with short wings attached to the jet engine.
  4. 4. A vehicle as in claim I with a semi circular shaped roof.
  5. 5. A vehicle as in claim 1 which can be steered in the air by turning the steering wheel used for steering the car on the ground.
  6. 6. A vehicle as in claim I used for driving fast on the road.
  7. 7. A vehicle as in claim I which, when the engine is on the roof, the engine can be rotated 180 degrees horizontally to slow the forward motion of the vehicle or even fly backwards.
  8. 8. Any vehicle which is designed, looks, or is operated like the vehicle featured in this patent application.
