Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for delivering a voucher from a server to a mobile device based on its geographic location, which can be then be redeemed via an electronic point of sale and tracked such that there is a record of the location and time of day that the voucher was redeemed. A consumer activates the received voucher by touching a button on the device interface and this activation is reported to the server. The activated voucher is then acknowledged at the EPOS utilising SMS, RFID, NFC, barcode technologies or sales assistant input.

Description

Method for delivering and tracking a sales discount via a mobile handset using location based technologies and electronic point of sale systems
Description of the invention
One preferred method for delivering and tracking a mobile voucher will now be described with the aid of the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a block diagram showing the key physical components needed to fulfil an implementation of the invention with a workflow as follows: 1. The mobile handset makes connection with the US Government's Global Positioning Satellite system and acquires the GPS co-ordinates.
2. Computer code owned by the inventor then executes on the handset to make a connection to the RipplI server located at www.ripplLcom and passes the GPS co-ordinates via Hyper Text Transfer Protocol.
3. The RipplI server returns an image file and text representing the RipplI Voucher to be displayed on the handset 4. The Consumer activates the mobile voucher by touching a button on the handset interface and shows the activated voucher to the Sales Assistant.
5. The handset reports this voucher activation to the RipplI server via Hyper Text Transfer Protocol.
6. The Sales Assistant acknowledges the activated voucher by pressing a button on the Electronic Point of Sale system.
The means by which the redemption is acknowledged (in step 6 above) on the point of sale system may vary and may include any combination of HTTP, SMS, REID, NFC and barcode technologies.

Claims (5)

  1. Claims 1. A method for delivering and tracking the discount provided by a digital mobile voucher, wherein the voucher is delivered from an internet server via Hyper Text Transfer Protocol to a mobile handset, then activated by the touch of a graphical user interface button on an Electronic Point of Sale system and the tracking of said activation is measured by a further Hyper Text Transfer Protocol connection to the same internet server from the mobile handset. Furthermore the delivery of said mobile voucher is dependent on the geographic location of the mobile handset at the time of delivery.
  2. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the activation on the Electronic Point of Sale system uses a barcode image.
  3. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the activation on the Electronic Point of Sale system usesNear Field Communications technology.
  4. 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the activation on the Electronic Point of Sale system uses Radio Frequency Identification.
  5. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the delivery of the voucher image takes place using the handset's default Short Messaging Service provided by the default mobile network operator.
