Abstract

A personal, portable detection device (2) is described. The device (2) comprises at least one sensor (32, 34, 36), monitoring means adapted to monitor an output of the or each sensor, and signalling means (16, 38) to issue an alarm condition upon detection of a predetermined sensor output by the monitoring means. The detection device (2) may comprise interfacing means for interfacing with at least one remote system in response to the detection of a predetermined sensor output by the monitoring means. A smoke chamber (42) for the personal detection device (2) is also described.
