Abstract

A turbine module is fitted to a rainwater downpipe and consists of a water funnel located at the top end of the module housing to direct rainwater onto the rotor. A generator is housed within the turbine hub. The generator has magnets forming the rotor and a central generator hub to produce an electric current that is carried to a storage unit using an electrical cable.

Description

Raingen This invention relates to a module that uses natural rainwater to generate electricity.
When it rains rainwater generally runs off roofs into guttering and then to a downpipe before running into the drainage systems.
This module utilises the rainwater in the downpipe before it is allowed to run into the drainage systems.
The invention will be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Drawing 1 shows an assembled internal view of the module, the arrows denote the rainwater running into a funnel 1, located at the top end of the module housing 2, the rainwater is directed through the funnel 1, onto the rotor 3, and the down force of water enables the rotor 3, to turn at speed thus creating an electrical current.
Drawing 2 shows the separate parts of the module, funnel 1, located at the top end of the module housing 2, the rotor 3, magnets 4, generator hub 5, and electrical cable 6, . The magnets 4, and the generator hub 5, are located in the internal bore of the rotor 3, the rotor 3, is supported each end by rotating bearings allowing the rotor 3, to turn at speed and produce an electric current which is then carried to a storage unit using electrical cable 6,.
The advantages of using this module is that with more and more pressure being put on everyone to be more environmentally friendly and to recycle as much as possible it makes sense to use a natural source of water to produce electricity that we all use on day to day basis. The electricity which can be stored maybe used for lighting or for electrical appliances. The modules can be installed not only for general household use but also for factories, office blocks, large and small industrial units, hotels, hospitals, and all other types of buildings. We can all benefit using the electricity produced with this invention by using a natural source of water which is normally discarded.
