Abstract
A conventional mobile phone 8 with a toughened shell which has a caller display 1 that shows large numbers or letters. The mobile phone has a large answer button 2 and a large reject/end call/on-off button 3. It also may have a number of pre-programmed buttons 4/9/10 that would dial a chosen number (a carer, support service, parents etc). There would be a key lock function 5 which would prevent the user from turning the phone off or pressing the pre-programmed buttons.
Description
Title: Special Phone Back.rouad: I support people with a learning
disability and so far have come across twelve people who would like a mobile phone, whether it be for their safety or otherwise. They can not get one for many reasons e.g. limited number recognition or illiterate. It is essential that this part of the community can have access to a suitable mobile phone whether it is for their safety or well-being, to promote their independence or for simple peace of mind.
Statement of Invention:
The Special Phone is a mobile phone designed for vulnerable persons who may have difficulty in using a conventional mobile phone (e.g. Adults/children with a learning disability/mental health issues, Adults/children with a physical disability, the elderly and young children).
The idea is to make the mobile phone as simple as possible so they can be contacted at any time or they could contact someone in an emergency. Primarily it would be for the learning disabled or adults with mental health issues.
Advalitafes: * The mobile phone could now be accessed to a large part of the community who could not access it previously * It would promote independence for the learning disabled and the elderly as risks of being on their own would be reduced * Peace of mind would be present for any carers knowing they could contact the person at any time * The vulnerable person would be able to contact someone in an emergency using the pre-programmed button facility * It prevents a person from calling unnecessary numbers * Ease of use (It would primarily be used from a safety point of view) * Toughened to prevent damage
Introduction to drawiw:
Figure 1 shows the Special Phone Figure 2 shows a different version of the Special Phone with more pre-progranimed buttons
Written Description:
A conventional mobile phone 8 has a toughened case and is easy to hold, the speaker 6 is at the top of the phone and the microphone 7 is at the bottom.
The caller display 1 is present on the phone and will be able to tell the user in large letters or numbers whether they have an incoming call, have ended the call, who is calling, low battery etc. An answer button 2 will be present which will be quite large and have a raised tick (or other shape) for touch purposes, this button 2 will be used primarily for answering any incoming calls.
A large reject/finish call button 3 will be present on the phone, also with a raised shape and will enable users to reject an incoming call, end a call and turn the phone on and off.
Slide button 5 will be present on the phone to enable a key lock function so the user does not dial their pre-programmed numbers or turn the phone off unnecessarily.
Call Button 4 will be a pre-programmed button to call a number which may connect the user to a care organisation, parents, carers, emergency service etc. More pre-progranmied buttons 9/10 may be present depending upon the user's
specification.
