Abstract

An artificial liver 1 in the form of a compartmentalised box with compartments for the artificial artery 4, hepatic portal vein 5, hepatic vein 7 and gallbladder 6, connectors 3, 9, 12, 15, 19 and a central tubular structure with multiple holes 8, 14 to filter substances injected into the artificial liver into the blood and convert them into substances which are produced naturally by the liver. The artificial liver 1 may be joined to the rib cage by connector 20.

Description

Artificial Liver Description
An Artificial liver.

Fig 1.10 is the hepatic portal vein.
Fig 1.11 is the holed tube of the gall bladder compartment.
Fig 1.12 is the connector of the gall bladder to the artificial liver.
Fig 1.13 is the gall bladder duct.
Fig 1.14 is a hole in the holed tube of the hepatic vein compartment.
Fig 1.15 is the connector of the hepatic vein to the artificial liver.
Fig 1.16 is the hepatic portal vein.
Fig 1.17 is a compartmentaliSiflg barrier.
Fig 1.18 is a compartmentaliSiflq barrier.
Fig 1.19 is the connector of all the veins to the hepatic artery.
Fig 1.20 is the connector of the artificial liver to the rib cage of the patient.
The artificial liver could be attached to the rib cage behind the rib cage and is so orientated as a real liver would be and has an artery going into it and veins going out of it.
The filters in the hepatic portal vein compartment, the gall bladder compartment, and the hepatic vein compartment could in each instance be a metal tube with multitudinous holes in it. The substances that a real liver would normally produce are injected into the Artificial Liver through the skin as the position of the Artificial Liver is known through apertures in each compartment which could be of a rubber or rubber like substance so that when the syringes are withdrawn there is no longer holes In the device, in these apertures, the rest of the device could be of plastic.
As the blood is driven from the artery to each of the veins there is a take up of the substances which would normally be produced by a real liver, they are driven through the filters and hence to the blood so the take up is fixed and is adequate for normal bodily functioning, and is as though a real liver is in operation.
Substances could be input to the blood which also take away from the blood those substances which would normally be taken from the blood by a real liver, or these substances which would normally be taken from the blood could be extracted from the artificial liver.
Fig 2 shows the connector of the hepatic artery, hepatic portal vein, gall blather, and hepatic vein to the artificial liver. These are all attached by screw on to attach connectors. Fig 2.1 is the artery or vein wall going in which is pushed up against the plug Fig 2.3 then Fig 2.7 is screwed and Fig 2.2 pinches up against the artery or vein as the socket can rotate in its groove at Fig 2.4. Thread Fig 2.5 goes along thread Fig 2.6.

Claims (1)

  1. Artificial Liver Claims 1. A compartmentalised box which has ccmpartmenS
for the hepatic artery to the hepatic portal vein, gall bladder, and hepatic vein via connectors, and has in the hepatic portal vein compartment and gall bladder compartment and hepatic vein compartment a tube which has multitudinous holes in it which converts he blood incident on to it the substances that would otherwise be produced by a real liver due to injections in to the artificial liver, the artificial Liver is substantially as described herein
with reference to the accompanying description and
