Description
Guided Tours for GPS
General Description
The Guided Tours for GPS is a software package that is written to the flash card in personal Global Positioning Systems (GPS). This application provides the user with a pre-recorded guided tour, which is triggered by the location of the GPS. A tour can therefore be conducted by the user without a human guide and can tale place at the pace determined by the user.
Essential features of the Guided Tours for GPS The application is written to the add-on flash card of any persona] GPS unit. Therefore it can be used in all GPS that have flash card capability. It interacts with the onboard guidance software to provide timely, accurate and consistent information to the user when he or she arrives at a specific location. The application software is therefore location specific. For example the Guided Tour for London would contain a library ofthe points of interest. Each point of interest would have specific data associated with it. The specific data would include the precise location (latitude and longitude), a digital sound record which provides the details of the point of interest (history, famous events/people associated, etc.) and optional additional information which extends the learning experience whenever time permits. A linking program will also be included that enables the user to be directed along a set route for the tour or will permit the user to select a route of his/her own choice around the points of interest. Separate application software will be provided for each city or tour location and can be tailored to suit individual interests such as history, architecture, geography, environment, science, famous people, culture, heritage and so forth. There will be user selections within the programs to allow them to determine how long the tour should last and hence control the amount of detail given at each point of interest. There will be user selections within the programs to allow them to determine which language is used for the guided tour. Hence users can listen in their own language.
