Abstract

A child car seat has a pair of retractable wheels (5A and 5B) and a collapsible handle (7). The car seat may be converted into a push chair or stroller. The handle may contain a spring biased release button (6) that deploys the wheels from a retracted position to a deployed position, the button may alternatively located on the handle. The wheels may also be spring biased into the deployed position. In the retracted position the wheels are held within the body of the child car seat ( Fig 1). The same button may also be used to deploy the handle from the collapsed to extended positions. The seat may have means to locate it to a car seat such as straps or clips to receive a vehicle seat belt (not shown).

Description

Title: Car Seat with wheels The present invention relates to a car seat
with wheels.
Many infants spend time being transported in a car seat. Many parents spend time carrying car seats with infants whilst walking short journeys, e.g. from the house to the car and vice versa, and this can lead to back injuries. It is known to provide push chairs to transport infants whilst walking, but it is too time consuming to transfer an infant into a pushchair from a car seat and vice versa for short journeys.
The invention seeks to provide a car seat with wheels to transport an infant in a car seat, particularly for short journeys.
According to the present invention there is provided a car seat with wheels comprising: a) a car seat body, b) at least a pair of wheels which move from a first stored position within the car seat body to a second position having at least a portion of the wheels projecting from the car seat body to support the car seat body off the ground, c) an a handle to pull or push the car seat along the ground.
N
Preferably trigger means are provided to move the wheels from the first to the second position and/or vice versa. In one embodiment the trigger means is a button, optionally on the car seat or handle, which when depressed moves the wheels from the first to the second position. In another embodiment an extendible handle is provided which when extended operates said trigger means.
Preferably the handle is telescopic. Preferably the handle is extendible from the seat and moves from a first position within the seat to second position extended from the seat.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows an exploded view of a car seat with the wheels in the first position, and Figure 2 shows a view of a car seat with the wheels in the second position.
Referring to the drawings there is shown a car seat 1.
Seat 1 has a car seat body 2. Car seat body 2 is designed to accommodate a small child and has a harness 3 and handle 4, and may be lined with cushioning material as is well known in the art. Seat l may have means to secure it to a vehicle seat such as straps or clips to receive a vehicle seat belt (not shown).
Mounted in recesses 2A,2B either side of car seat body 2 are a pair of wheels 5A,5B which can move from a first stored position within the car seat body (as shown in Figure 1) to a second position having at least a portion of the wheels projecting from the car seat body to support the car seat body off the ground (as shown in Figure 2).
Wheels 5A,5B are biased by a spring (not shown) into the second position. Trigger means in the form of a button 6 is provided which operates a resettable latch (not shown) holding the wheels in the first position. When button is depressed, it operates the latch allowing the wheels to move from the first to the second position. The wheels may then be pressed manually into the first position thus resetting the latch.
A telescopic handle 7 is provided to pull or push the car seat along the ground when the wheels are in the second position. Handle 7 is extendible from the seat and moves from a first position within the seat (as shown in Figure 1) to second position extended from the seat ( as shown in Figure 2). Button 6 could alternatively be on the handle.
In use with the wheels 5A,5B in the second position and the handle 7 extended, the car seat 1 may be used like a pushchair. With the wheels in the first position and the handle 7 in its first position, the car seat 1 may be carried or placed on a vehicle seat.
The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above. For example the action of extending the handle may operate the trigger means to allow the wheels to move from the first to the second position. \
Further modifications of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
