In recent years, data storage and transmission lo technology has rapidly improved, and various kinds of storage media are used as computer peripherals. Flash memory cards, for example, are commonly employed as memory in portable consumer electronics devices, such as digital cameras, notebook computers, MP3 players, PDAs and the like. Due to their popularity, however, flash memory cards are expensive and in short supply.
When memory, i.e. the flash memory card, capacity of the portable consumer electronics device is full, data stored therein must be stored or deleted. For example, so if the flash memory card of a digital camera reaches capacity, the flash memory card must be removed from the digital camera and inserted into a reader, and then stored on a computer hard drive or other storage device.
The reader can be a memory card reader or PC card and can Is be connected to a computer via an interface, such as the universal serial bus (USB) interface.
In some cases, however, a computer may not be readily available to perform the above mentioned procedure. When a flash memory card, for example, reaches capacity it must be replaced with an empty card.
It may be considered inconvenient, however, to carry additional memory cards. Moreover, several memory cards s are necessary to store a large amount of data, which is both expensive and inconvenient.
In order to make storage more convenient, the inventor has proposed a conventional portable data backup device, which is disclosed in U.S. Patent No. 6,588,662 B1 "PORTABLE DATA BACKUP DEVICE."
