Abstract

A vending machine which stores thumbnails of available music tracks for user selection and downloads selected tracks via a secure link to a remote server. The Vending machine comprises a CD burner, a label printer, a sleeve printer and a robotic arm which labels the CD and inserts both CD and CD sleeve into a CD case. Payment methods disclosed are credit card, debit card and vending machine specific tokens/cards.

Description

CD Master This invention addresses a common problem in the purchasing of
music compilation CD's. It employs the latest technology and methods to produce an exe* requirement for individual purchases, at an affordable price.
Inspiration...
Whilst very ill in hospital, had to think or things to draw my attention away from the pain, so thinking about my modest music colle*ion and how much money I must have wasted on buying CD's with 12+ tracks on and only really liking 2 or 3. I began to wonder if there was a way of buying a compilation CD and only having the music on I wanted. The thought of a Jukebox and a vending machine came to mind, so I put the two together.
In Simple terms...
The CD Master enables a customer to enter a retails shop, sele* the exe* tracks desired from all available artist, choose the design of the CD itself, choose the design of the sleeve, pay for and then leave the store with the finished produ*.
The finished machine will have it's own CD Burning (coping) equipment, CD printing equipment (may have a combined Burning/Printing machine), sleeve printer, assembling components, and a remote storage facility for tracks, CD designs, sleeve design and track information, that can be instantly transferred to the in store vending machine.
In detail...
Figure 1. Shows the complete flow diagram of the machine, and its external contacts, the data storage facility and the conne*ion to a payment service. It also shows the subsequent movement of information and the produ* as it gets produced.
There are four main items that are involved in making the completed produ*, the actual data, (music, music information, sleeve icons and CD prints), the blank CD, the blank sleeves and the CD cases. Figure 1, shows the thread and flow of each of these to the finished produ*.
Actual Data- 1.Music...
The music (MP3) data once selected by the customer, will be requested by! the in store machine from the External Data Source and then transferred to its internal data storage. Then processed to the CD Burning Equipment, where the media is recorded.
Actual Data - 2.Music Information...
The music information would be sent with the MP3 data that it relates to from: the External Data Source and then transferred to its internal data storage.
Then processed to the Sleeve Printer and all the music information will appear in the play list order.
Actual Data - 3.Sleeve Icons...
As with the Music Information, the Sleeve Icons will be related to each MP3 file that is transferred from the External Data Source. The Icons will be images taken from the song album or single sleeve. Once on the Internal Data Storage it is passed onto the Sleeve Printing Equipment along with the Music Information.
Actual Data - 4.CD prints...
Stored on the Internal Data Storage will be 'thumbnails' of the all the available prints for the top of the CD media itself. Once selected the complete data will be transferred from External Data Source, to the Internal Data Storage and then onto the CD Printing Equipment.
Blank CD Media...
The Blank CD Media is stored within the machine itself, a robotic arm will I collect a blank CD pass it into/onto the CD Burning Equipment. Once the media is copied onto the CD the robotic arm will then move it to the CD Printing Equipment, unless of course a combined burner/printer is used. Then when the printing is finished, the arm will insert the burnt and printed CD into: the completed case, then onto the dispenser.
The Blank Sleeves...
The blank sleeves will be stored within the machine itself, probably in an open position. Data, namely the track information and images will be passed from the External Data Source to the Internal Data Storage and then to the Sleeve Printer. The Blank Sleeve will pass through the printer, been printed with the track information on the inside and the icons for the track single or album on the outside. The printed sleeve will then be folded and inserted into the CD Case.
The CD Cases...
The CD Cases will be stored within the machine itself. Then will be taken from their storage to the insertion of the sleeve area. Then the completed case will be moved to the CD insertion area and then onto the dispenser.
