Abstract

The device consists of a mobile telephone constructed so that it incorporates within the body of the instrument a smoke alarm capable if suitably set up of ringing the bell and or sending out a telephone message as required.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
Patent specification Enhancements to Mobile Telephones.
Description The technical features of a mobile telephone are well known. They consist of a receiving and transmitting aerial, a battery, a bell, a means of producing the outgoing signal by keys and a device for receiving incoming calls intended for that receiver. It also includes a switch to bring the necessary circuits into use at the appropriate time.
A smoke alarm has two technical features in common with a mobile telephone, namely a battery and a bell but it also incorporates a detector which on being affected by smoke is intended to complete an electrical circuit which then enables the battery to power and activate the bell.
The invention which is now described combines the usefulness of the two above devices and is essentially a mobile telephone in which a smoke detector has been incorporated together with additional circuitry and switch so that the detector on being activated by smoke can be made either to sound the bell with the required ring and or to send a telephone message to a specified number indicating that the device has been activated by smoke.
It is foreseen that a separate on/off switch may not be required depending on whether the instrument is set up to detect smoke and receive calls at the same time.
This description is intended to include any method of circuitry whereby the above combined device can be made to achieve the objects described. It is inevitable that the need to incorporate all necessary technical features into a portable device and the circuitry involved will be met in different ways by different technical designers.
No circuit diagrams are therefore appended but it is considered that such details are well within the competence of electrical engineers and designers employed in the mobile telephone industry.
This description includes any device whereby a telephone and a smoke detector are included within one portable instrument and is not intended to impinge on the pre-existing use of any other devices for smoke detection.
It is intended that the device described will contribute substantially to public safety and since it is likely to be well maintained will provide better cover than existing battery operated smoke detectors.
It may be that static devices which when activated by smoke will ring an alarm bell and or transmit a phone message already exist and some individuals may already carry portable smoke detectors with them.

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIMS It is claimed however that the subject of this invention manufactured as described is a genuine inventive concept and that the article produced has not previously been produced, described or foreseen To incorporate a smoke detector into a mobile telephone will add substantially to the safety of the person carrying the combined device whether at home or in a hotel or hostel.
    It is claimed that since mobile telephones tend to be in continuous use they are likely to be kept well maintained and charged but it is common knowledge that smoke alarms tend to be neglected and at times left without adequately charged batteries.
    It is claimed therefore that the device described will often provide more continuous and reliable cover and might in some cases be reasonably regarded as the principal safeguard against fire in any home.
