Abstract

A vehicle mount for a mobile phone cradle, comprises a plastics moulding having a first limb 10 for attachment to the console/dashboard of a vehicle and a second limb 11 extending at an angle to the first limb for supporting a mobile phone cradle. The first limb is sufficiently flexible to enable it to adapt to the contour of the console/dashboard. This may be achieved by providing one or more longitudinally extending fold lines 12, 13 and one or more transversely extending fold lines 14, 15, 16 in the limb 10. Fastening means, such as double sided adhesive tape 19, is provided on one face of the limb 10 for securing the limb 10 to the console/dashboard.

Description

2362773 -IA VEHICLE MOUNT FOR A MOBILE PHONE CRADLE This invention relates
to a vehicle mount for a mobile phone cradle and, more particularly but not necessarily exclusively, to such a mount which can be attached to the console/dashboard of the vast majority of vehicles, particularly road vehicles.
According to a first aspect of the invention, there is provided a vehicle mount for a mobile phone cradle, comprising a plastics moulding having a first elongate limb for attachment to the console/dashboard of a vehicle and a second limb extending at an angle to the first limb for supporting a mobile phone cradle, the first limb being sufficiently flexible to enable it to adapt to the contour of the console/dashboard and having fastening means on one face of the first limb for securing the first limb to the console/dashboard.
According to a second aspect of the invention there is provided a vehicle mount for a mobile phone cradle, comprising a plastics moulding having a first elongate limb for attachment to the console/dashboard of a vehicle and a second limb extending at an angle to the first limb for supporting a mobile phone cradle, the first limb having at least one fold line extending longitudinally or substantially longitudinally thereof and at least one fold line extending transversely thereof to enable the first limb to adapt to the contour of the console/dashboard and fastening means on one face of the first limb for securing the first limb to the console/dashboard.
Preferred and/or optional features of the second aspect of the invention are set out in claims 4 to 8.
The invention will now be more particularly described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one embodiment of a vehicle mount according to the invention, taken from above, Figure 2 is an underside perspective view of the vehicle mount shown in Figure 1, and Figure 3 is a side view of the vehicle mount shown in Figures 1 and 2.
Referring to the drawings, the vehicle mount shown therein comprises a plastics moulding, typically ABS, having a first elongate limb 10 for attachment to the console/dashboard of a vehicle and a second limb 11 at one end of the first limb 10. The second limb extends at an angle of close to 90' to the first limb 10 and is adapted to receive a cradle (not shown) for a mobile phone. The cradle may be a sliding fit on the limb 11 or may be secured thereto such as by self- tapping screws.
The first limb 10 is sufficiently flexible to enable it to adapt to the contour of the console/dashboard of the vehicle and to this end is provided with two longitudinally extending fold lines 12 and 13 and three transversely extending fold -3lines 14, 15 and 16. The first limb also has adjacent to said one end two further fold lines 17 and 18 which converge towards one another in a direction away from said one end.
The fold lines 12 to 18 allow the first limb to flex and enable it to adapt to the contour of the console/dashboard to which it is to be attached.
The rear face of the first limb 10 is provided with a sheet of double sided adhesive tape 19 which is covered by a sheet of protective paper (not shown). It is, however, possible that this double sided adhesive tape could be replaced by a sheet containing the hook or loop part of a hook and loop fastener and that the other part of the hook and loop fastener could be provided with double sided adhesive tape for attachment to the console/dashboard of a vehicle.
As will be noted, the first limb 10 has a short depending leg 20 which backs onto the second limb 11, there being a radiused curve between the underside of the first limb 10 and the depending leg 20 for engagement with the edge of a console/dashboard.
If desired, the first limb can be shortened by cutting along one of the fold lines 14, 15 or 16.
The embodiment described above is given by way of example only and various modifications will be apparent to persons skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
