Abstract
236,090. Riva, O. B. July 2, 1924, [Con. vention date]. Infusing-machines.-In apparatus for the preparation of coffee by infusion, a multi-way tap is provided, so that the various phases of the preparation process are carried out by successive movements of the tap. all waste liquid being conveyed to a sump. The apparatus comprises receivers N, Fig. 1, pivoted to the body of the urn and provided with percolators 4, and multi-way taps A. By movement of the tap A, first steam is conveyed to the percolator by pipe a<1>-a<1>, then hot-water by pipe a-a, and pressure may be released by waste water conveyed away by pipe a<0>-a<0> to the sump M. The percolators 4 are preferably formed with inwardly directing ledges 4<1>, Figs. 4 and 5, and the receivers, may be closed by locking devices as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. Condensation or other waste liquid, which may be caught by the trays P, is conveyed to the sump M. The apparatus further comprises a source of heat F, enclosed in a combustion chamber F<1>, provided with discharge tubes F<11>, submerged in the water in a boiler K. The discharge tubes lead into a space between the boiler walls k and the external casing k<1>. The boiler K is fitted with a level gauge, pressure gauge, and a multiway tap B for the discharge of steam or hot water. A three-way tap C provides for the supply of feed-water to the boiler by the pipes c<1>-c<11>, or by the automatic inlet valve D via pipes c-c<1>, or the discharge of boiler water through pipes c<11>-c<0> to the sump M. The valve 15, Figs. 6 and 7 is controlled by a float 11, through a diaphragm 14, on both sides of which steam pressure from the boiler acts. Water enters the boiler through pipe 17. The preferred form of heating device is a gas burner Figs. 8 and 9, the mixing chamber of which comprises two truncated cones 24, 26, and having a perforated sleeve 23<1> for regulating the air supply.
