Abstract
A wing mirror includes a shell 1, a transparent lamp cover 3 extending out of said shell, and lamps 31, attached inside said lamp cover, said lamps flashing synchronously with an indicator lamp of a vehicle. Wires from the lamps pass through a hole 11 in the shell 1 and through the arm 12 at the wing mirror.
Description
I 2357269 -1 WING MIRROR This invention relates to a wing mirror,
particularly to one giving a warning sign to nearby vehicles which may be running in front of, behind or to the right side or the left side to arouse attention, and give a warning to other drivers, so as to improve driving safety when an automobile changes a lane or turns right or left.
Conventional wing mirrors serve to assist the driver of a vehicle to see vehicles which may be approaching from the right side or the left side. By looking at the wing mirror the driver is able to decide whether it is safe to change lane or to turn right or left. Before a driver decides to change lane, or to turn right or left, even if the driver sees no vehicles within a certain distance, it would be advantageous to use the indicator lamp to let other vehicles, which may be coming from a far distance, know what step the vehicle running in front of them will take. Then the drivers of the surrounding vehicles which may be running in front of or approaching from behind can decide what to do in order to maintain safety. Known indicator lamps are positioned at an outer end of the front and back of an automobile in proximity with the head light and the brake signal lamp. Some manufacturers additionally attach a small indicator lamp on two sides of an automobile. But the small indicator lamps are not bright enough to arouse attention and warning.
Preferred embodiments of the present invention seek to offer an outside wing mirror which can be seen from other nearby vehicles which may be running in front of, behind, or to the right or left side, thereby improving driving safety.
An important aspect of the present invention is a projection which extends out of a shell of a wing mirror, and a transparent lamp cover fixed inside the projection, with the power wires of the lamps passing through a hole of the shell and being connected to the instrument panel of the indicator lamps. The lamps in the projection flash synchronously when the indicator lamp on the same side of a vehicle begin to light up, thereby giving out a warning to nearby vehicles.
For a better understanding of the present invention, and to show how the same may be carried into effect, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is an exploded perspective view of an embodiment of a wing mirror according to the present is invention; Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of an embodiment of a wing mirror according to the present invention; Fig. 3 is a front view of the wing mirror of the present invention being in used in a car; Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view of a second embodiment of a wing mirror according to the present invention; and, Fig. 5 is a cross-sectional view of a third embodiment of a wing mirror according to the present invention.
An embodiment of an outside wing mirror according to the present invention is shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and includes a shell 1, a mirror body 2 and a projecting transparent lamp cover 3 extending out of the shell 1 and screwed tightly with the shell 1. The projection has a transparent lamp cover 3, and plurality of lamps 31 are provided inside the lamp cover 3. The shell 1 has a hole 11 facing the lamp cover 3, for power wires 311 to pass through the hole 11 into the shell 1 and then extending along the connector 12 to the instrument panel of the indicator lamps inside the car body 4 which allows the lamps 31 to flash synchronously with the indicator lamp on the same side.
Next, as shown in Fig. 3, when the indicator lamp 41 begins to light up, the lamps 31 in the projection of the shell 1 of the wing mirror flash at the same time and can be seen through the transparent lamp cover 3 to provide an additional warning to other vehicles.
The lamp covers 3 and the lamps 31 are located on an upper side of the outside wing mirrors 1, because the wing mirrors are the most conspicuous in that location. So when the lamps 31 in the wing mirror 1 flashes, not only vehicles running in front of and behind, but also those running to the right side and the left side can see them and so avoid accidents which may occur if the driver does not pay attention to the indicator lamp. In addition, the lamps 31 can be replaced if necessary, by screwing loose the screw of the lamp cover 3.
The projecting lamp cover 3 with the lamps 31 can also be located on an outer side of the shell as shown in Fig. 4 showing a second embodiment of the wing mirror. Alternatively the projecting lamp cover 3 can be located on a lower surface of the shell as shown in Fig. 5 showing a third embodiment. The hole 11 is always arranged to face the lamp cover 3 whether in the first, the second or the third embodiment of the wing mirror.
Claims (7)
1. A wing mirror for an automobile comprising:
i) a mirror; ii) a shell to support the mirror; iii) at least one light source which projects from the outer surface of the shell and which is connected to a power supply in the automobile, wherein when the vehicle indicator light is activated, the light source(s) is also activated.
2. A wing mirror as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a transparent lamp cover which serves to cover the light source(s).
3. A wing mirror as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein when said light source is activated, it flashes on and off repeatedly.
4. A wing mirror comprising a shell, a transparent lamp cover extending out from an outer surface of said shell, a hole provided in said shell to face said lamp cover for power wires to pass through the hole of said shell and to extend into a vehicle and connected to an instrument panel, said lamps flashing synchronously when said indicator lamp on the same side of the vehicle is lit up, giving a warning to other vehicles running in front or, behind, from the right side and from the left side.
5. A wing mirror as claimed in any one of claims 2, 3 or 4 wherein said transparent lamp cover is located on an upper side, an outer side or a lower side of said shell, with said hole of said shell always facing said lamp cover.
