Abstract

A wiper arm 6 has a hooked end 7 which is formed in such a way that it does not engage a latch 8 on a locating clip 9 which forms part of a wiper blade harness assembly. An adaptor clip 1 however is applied around a hooked end 7 of the arm 6 and then the tips 4 of a pair of ears 3 of the adaptor clip 1 are snapped over the arm 6 to locate behind the rear of the locating clip 9 at 10. This prevents the arm 6 from disengaging from the locating clip 9.

Description

Improvements relatinq to Wiper Blade Arm Connectors In a conventional type of wiper blade assembly a wiper arm is located onto a wiper blade harness by a locating clip which snaps into a recess in a curved end to the wiper arm.
For certain types of assembly, however, the hooked end of the arm is not provided with a recess for part of a locating clip on the wiper blade harness to snap into and this invention aims to cope with that particular problem.
According to the present invention there is provided an adaptor clip for linking a hooked end projecting from the main body of a wiper arm to a wiper blade harness having a locating clip about which the hook at the end of the wiper arm is to be positioned, for the type of wiper arm which does not have a locating notch in the free end of the hook in which a latch on the locating clip would normally engage, the adaptor clip being shaped to fit around the outer face of the hooked end of the wiper arm and having a pair of ears to grip around the outer face and sides of the main body of the wiper arm and having inwardly turned tips for location below the inner face of said main body at a position to engage behind a free end of said locating clip.
Because the ears on the adaptor clip engage against a free end of the locating clip, when the various parts are assembled to one another, the hooked part of the arm cannot become detached accidentally. In the preferred arrangement the ears project out from the sides of the adaptor clip.
It is preferred that the free end of the body of the adaptor clip should extend beyond the pair of ears as an outwardly cranked portion. This provides a finger grip portion which allows the adaptor clip to be snapped away if release of the hooked end of the wiper arm from the locating clip is required.
The invention may be performed in various ways and a preferred embodiment will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:- Figures 1 and 2 are side and end views respectively of an adaptor clip of this invention; and Figure 3 illustrates the adaptor clip of Figures 1 and 2 as part of a wiper arm assembly.
The adaptor clip shown in Figures 1 and 2 comprises a U-shaped body 1 having an extending free arm 2. A pair of ears 3 project out from the sides of the free arm 2 and terminate in inwardly turned tips 4.
Figure 3 illustrates a part of a wiper harness 5 together with a wiper arm 6 which has a hooked end 7 which is formed in such a way that it does not engage a latch 8 on a locating clip 9 which forms part of the wiper blade harness assembly. Consequently, under normal circumstances, the hooked end of the arm 7 could slide off the locating clip 9. The adaptor clip 1 however can be applied around a hooked end 7 of the arm 6 and then the tips 4 are snapped over the arm 6 to locate behind the rear of the locating clip 9 at 10. This prevents the arm 6 from disengaging from the locating clip 9.
A cranked end portion 11 can be formed on the adaptor clip 1 and can be gripped and pulled so as to displace the inturned tips 4 and thus free the parts for disengagement from the locating clip 9 when it is desired to detach the arm 6 from the wiper blade harness.

Claims (4)

1. An adaptor clip for linking a hooked end projecting from the main body of a wiper arm to a wiper blade harness having a locating clip about which the hook at the end of the wiper arm is to be positioned, for the type of wiper arm which does not have a locating notch in the free end of the hook in which a latch on the locating clip would normally engage, the adaptor clip being shaped to fit around the outer face of the hooked end of the wiper arm and having a pair of ears to grip around the outer face and sides of the main body of the wiper arm and having inwardly turned tips for location below the inner face of said main body at a position to engage behind a free end of said locating clip.
2. An adaptor clip according to Claim 1, wherein the ears project out from the sides of the adaptor clip.
3. An adaptor clip as claimed in Claim 2, wherein the free end of the body of the adaptor clip extends beyond the pair of ears as an outwardly cranked portion.
4. An adaptor clip substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
