The housing of the card reader is further included with a recess for readily held by the fingers ofthe user. A supporting bracket is provided for selectively positioning the housing of the card reader with or without engagement between the housing and the supporting bracket A plurality of supporting legs are provided to the supporting bracket to prevent the housing from falling off when the supporting bracket is mounted vertically on a wall.
Description of Prior Art In the conventional card reader, the LCD is firmly mounted with a transparent cover. When the EL back light ofthe LCD is to be fixed or replaced, the whole housing shall be disassembled. Accordingly, it is very inconvenient to perform the repair/replacement and maintenance on a conventional card reader.
On the other hand, the conventional card reader has a rectangular configuration which the user can not hold it firmly as it has a smooth edges. It is really inconveniently inuse.
Besides, if the housing ofthe card reader shall be attached to a supporting bracket which is mounted vertically onto a wall, then a pair of hooker and fastener are permanently provided between the housing and the supporting bracket. When the card reader is positioned horizontally, the hooker will bring inconveniehce to the card reader.
When the supporting bracket is hanged on the wall, the tilted bottom will cause the card reader falling off therefrom.
Summan of the Invention It is an object of this invention to provide an improvement to the card reader wherein the problems which the conventional card reader met can be completely solved According to one aspect ofthe present invention, a transparent cover is removably mounted to the LCD. The Elrback light can be readily accessed and the repair and replacement can be easily performed.
According to another aspect ofthe present invention, wherein a recess is provided at bottom edge ofthe housing for readily holding by the user.
According to another aspect ofthe present invention, a supporting bracket having a tab is provided. The tab can be selectively mounted according to the installation ofthe supporting bracket.
According to still another aspect ofthe present invention, the supporting bracket is provided with a retractably pivoted supporting legs which may prevent the card reader from falling off when extends as the supporting bracket is mounted vertically on a wall.
Brief Description of Drawings These and other objects, shape and configuration or device and characteristics may become more apparently in conjunction with the following description and drawings which are explanatory and not for limitation, wherein: Figure 1 is a perspective view ofthe card reader made according to this invention; Figure 2 is still a perspective view of the card reader wherein a supporting bracket is incorporated; Figure 3 is an exploded perspective view showing the card reader shown in Figure 2; Figure 4 is a plan view showing the bottom ofthe card reader made according to this invention; Figure 5 is still a plan view showing the connection between the card reader and the supporting bracket; Figure 6 is still a plan view showing the card reader is separated from the supporting bracket; Figure 7 is plan view showing the bottom ofthe supporting bracket; Figure 8 is a side elevational view the supporting bracket made according to this invention; and Figure 9 is a cross sectional view partially showing the side ofthe supporting bracket.
Detailed Description of Preferred Embodiment Referring to Figures 1,2 and 3, it generally show the perspective view of the card reader, the perspective view and exploded perspective view ofthe card reader with a supporting bracket.
To a conventional card reader, it generally comprises a rectangular housing 10 having a keypad 11 and a liquid-crystal-display 12 (LCD) disposed thereof. A card reading stand 13 having a reading slot 14 is disposed at one side of said housing 10 for reading a credit card A Since this is a general configuration of the card reader and the subject matter sought to patent is not in this scope, accordingly, no further description is made.
In the improvement ofthe card reader made according to the present invention, a transparent lid 15 is removably mounted atop ofthe LCD 12. The bottom edge of said cover 15 is provided with a plurality of projected bosses 16 which can be firmly engaged with the corresponding retaining slots 17 disposed at said LCD 12. By this aarangement, said transparent cover 15 is removably attached to said LCD 12 by the interference fit between said bosses 16 and said retaining slots 17. When the EL-back light of said LCD 12 is to repair, said cover 15 can be advantageously removed therefrom to provide an access thereof. Accordingly, the repair can be readily performed without disassembling the whole housing. Furthermore, an IC card receiving slot 18 is also disposed at said housing 10 which is at same side of said card reading slot 14. When an IC card B with defied function is inserted, said card reader made according to this invention can be incorporated and enhanced with more functions. On the other hand, one side edge ofthe bottom of said housing 10 is provided with recess 19 for receiving fmgers ofthe user, as shown in Figure 4. By this arrangement, the housing 10 can be readily and firmly held by the user.
Referring to Figures 5 and 6 which separately disclose the card reader made according to this invention is engaged with and without a supporting bracket. The housing 10 ofthe card reader can be readily disposed onto a supporting bracket 20. The top of said supporting bracket 20 is provided with a pair of recesses 21 having the same shape of said housing 10. Within said recess 21, a retaining slot 22 is provided for receiving a retaining tab 23 which is engaged with said retaining slot 22 with its lower end 24. Said retaining tab 23 further defines a first and second extensions 25, 26 wherein the length of said first extension 25 is longer than the second extension 26. Said tab 23 can be attached to said retaining slot 22 with two different directions.
On the other hand, the bottom of said housing 10 is provided with receiving slots 27 corresponding to said tab 23. When said supporting bracket 20 is positioned horizontally, said tab 23 is engaged with said retaining slot 22 with its second extension 26 adjacent to said receiving slot 27, as clearly shown in Figure 6. By this arrangement, there is no substantial engagement between said housing 10 of said card reader and said supporting bracket 20. Accordingly, the card reader can be readily picked off from said supporting bracket.
When the supporting bracket 20 is to mounted vertically on the wall or the likes, said tab 23 is engaged with said retaining slot 22 with its first extension 25 adjacent to said receiving slot 27, as clearly shown in Figure 5. In light ofthis, said housing 10 is attached to said supporting bracket 20 by the engagement between said receiving slot 27 and said first extension 25 of said tab 23. As a result, even said supporting bracket 20 is mounted vertically on a wall, said housing 10 is capable of being received firmly thereon By the provision of said first and second extensions 25 and 26 of said tab 23, the user can readily select a mounting position for said supporting bracket 20 and said card reader.
Figures 7 and 8 are the plan view ofthe bottom ofthe supporting bracket and side elevation view ofthe supporting bracket respectively. The bottom of said supporting bracket 20 can be disposed with retractably pivoted supporting leg 28 which is received within a socket 30. One end of said supporting leg 28 is pivotedly mounted within said socket 30 with a pivoting shaft 29, as shown in Figure 9. When the supporting bracket 20 is mounted vertically onto a wall with its hanging hole 31, said supporting legs 28 can be extended to support the supporting bracket 20 in such a manner that the card reader will not locate in a tilted position, as a result, the card reader will not fall off from said supporting bracket.
In conclusion, the problems which a conventional card reader encountered are completely solved by the provision ofthe present invention, i.e. the EL back light can be readily fixed without disassembling the housing all apart and the positioning of said housing can be advantageously made by the provision of said supporting bracket.
While particular embodiment ofthe present invention has been illustrated and described, it would be obvious to those skilled in the art that various other changes and modifications can be made without departing from the spirit and scope ofthe invention, for example, the Scan Matrix can be expanded to meet special requirements. It is therefore intended to cover in the appended claims all such changes and modifications that are within the scope ofthe present invention.
