Description

1 Device for fastening an injection-nozzle holder 2302136 The invention
relates to a device for fastening an injection-nozzle holder in a receiving hole in the cylinder head of an internal combustion engine.
Devices of this kind for fastening injection-nozzle holders on the cylinder head of internal combustion engines are sufficiently well known. Thus, for example, Fig. 3 of Austrian Patent 350,854 shows and describes a device in which the injection-nozzle holder is pressed onto its seat in a receiving hole in the cylinder head by a strap. The strap, which is of two-armed design, is supported by its lever arm pointing away from the injection-nozzle holder on the supporting location of an offset contact surface on the cylinder-head cover side of the cylinder head.
Devices of this kind are also known from German Periodical: ATZ Automobiltechnische Zeitschrift 76(1974)1, pages 1-5, especially Figure 1.
The present invention seeks to dimension the fastening of an injectionnozzle holder in such a way that differences in thermal expansion which occur when using different materials for the cylinder head and the injection-nozzle holder, caused by fluctuating operating temperatures, do not lead to any significant losses in the preloading force on the injection-nozzle holder.
According to the present invention there is provided a device for fastening an injection-nozzle holder in a receiving hole in a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine, with a fastening screw which is screwed into a threaded hole in the cylinder head and with a strap through which the said screw passes, which strap comprises a twoarmed lever with an effective length (b) and one lever arm of which, with an effective length (a), is supported on the cylinder head, on a supporting location, in a plane (A) lying perpendicular to the longitudinal axis (c) of the injection-nozzle holder, and the other lever arm of which, with the length (b-a) is supported on a force-introducing 2 supporting surface on the injection-nozzle holder, which is pressed onto a seat in the receiving hole under a def ined preloading force, a free section, with the length (LSchr), of the fastening screw lying between the plane (A) and the entry to the threaded hole, and a section with the length (LDH) being f ormed between the plane (A) and the seat end of the injection-nozzle holder, wherein the ratio of the length (a) to the length (b) is at least approximately equal to the ratio of the length (LSchr) to the length (LDH) In a preferred embodiment, that lever arm of the strap which points away from the injection-nozzle holder is supported on the cylinder head via a ball, for which matching spherical bearing locations are provided in the lever arm and on the cylinder head.
In another embodiment, a spherical washer, which rests in a correspondingly shaped recess in the strap, is placed between the strap and the head of the fastening screw.
By means of the measures according to the invention, temperature-neutral clamping of the injection-nozzle holder on the cylinder head is achieved even though the injectionnozzle holder and the cylinder head are made of different materials with different coefficients of expansion. Thus the differences in thermal expansion which occur due to fluctuating operating temperatures lead to virtually no significant losses in the preloading force on the injectionnozzle holder and consequently to virtually no impairment of the sealing effect in the seat region of the injectionnozzle holder. The preloading force is at least substantially the same in the hot state as in the cold state.
A fastening means of a similar type for the injectionnozzle holder is furthermore described in DE 44 13 415 Cl; however, this fastening means has a fastening screw without a free section and, in addition, an additional component is used, namely a clamp which reaches around the strap on one side.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the 3 drawing and described in greater detail below with reference to the exemplary embodiment.
To f ix an injection-nozzle holder I in position in a receiving hole 2 in the cylinder head 3 of an internal combustion engine, a device 4 comprising a two-armed strap 5 and an elongated fastening screw 6 is provided.
That part of the injection-nozzle holder 1 which projects from the receiving hole 2 has two diametrically opposite supporting surfaces 8 which are formed by flats 7 and on which the fork-shaped nozzle-holderside lever arm 9 of the strap 5 rests by means of its spherically profiled prongs 10 and presses the injection-nozzle holder I onto a seat 11 formed by a pressure shoulder in the receiving hole 2.
Between the injection-nozzle-side end of the injectionnozzle holder 1 and the seat 11 there is a sealing washer 12.
The fastening screw 6 passes through the strap 5, first of all runs f reely through a receiving hole 13 in the cylinder head 3 and is screwed into a threaded hole 14 in the cylinder head 3, said threaded hole being situated at the end remote from the strap 5.
The receiving hole 13 accommodating the screw and the receiving hole 2 accommodating the nozzle holder are arranged parallel to one another.
That lever arm 15 of the strap 5 which points away f rom the injectionnozzle holder 1 is supported via a ball 16 on a supporting location 22 on the cylinder head 3. The supporting location 22 lies at the level of a plane A running perpendicular to the longitudinal axis "C" of the injection-nozzle holder 1.
Mounted between the head 17 of the fastening screw 6 and the strap 5 is a spherical washer 18, which rests in an annular recess 19 in the strap 5 matched to the spherical washer.
The cylinder head 3 of the internal combustion engine and the injectionnozzle holder 1 are composed of different 4 materials with different coefficients of thermal expansion. The cylinder head 3 is manufactured from aluminium and the injection-nozzle holder 1 from steel.
The coefficient of thermal expansion of the cylinder head 3 is approximately twice as great as the coefficient of thermal expansion of the injection-nozzle holder 1.
In order to achieve temperature-neutral clamping of these components with different expansions special measures are provided, and these are such as to ensure that the ratio LSchr to LDH corresponds to the ratio a to b.
These have the following specific meanings:
LSchr Screw length obtained from the first load bearing turn of the threaded hole in the cylinder head and the plane running perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the injection-nozzle holder and intersecting the supporting location in the cylinder head.
L Nozzle-holder length measured from the seat DH end of the nozzle holder to the plane A a Length of that lever arm of the strap which points away from the nozzle holder b Length of the strap consisting of both lever arms.
In the case of components with different coefficients of thermal expansion, such relationships allow a preloading force on the injectionnozzle holder which is at least approximately constant in the hot and in the cold state. Sealing problems are substantially avoided.
