Protectors, construction of.- A tread piece for a heel comprises a layer a of the same shape as the heel and made of hard rubber, leather, or other non- slipping material having a bevelled projecting portion e formed integral therewith or permanently attached thereto, and a cushion layer b, of soft rubber or similar material, the same shape as the heel and recessed and preferably undercut to receive the projection on the tread layer. The cushion and tread layers are secured together to the heel. A backing of canvas may be recessed into or cover the whole upper surface of the soft rubber b.
