Abstract

A locking device comprises two parts for mounting on respective articles to be secured eg the double doors of a garage. Each part comprises an angle section mounting element 1, 2 having apertures for means, eg bolts, securing the elements to the articles, and an eyelet element 3, 4 secured, for example by welding, in the angle of the mounting element. When the articles to be locked are brought together (fig 3) front plates of the eyelet elements provide aligned apertures to receive a padlock. Each eyelet element is constructed from more than one plate to provide a construction strong enough to resist forcible release while allowing the front plate to be sufficiently thin to receive the padlock. As shown in fig 3 element 4 can have a top plate which bridges the gap between the two parts. <IMAGE>

Description

This invention relates to a locking device for use with padlocks.
Many locking devices are known but the aim of the present invention is to provide a means of being able to allow unrestricted use of material for the eyelet which the padlock engages with According to the present invention there is provided a locking device of two parts which when brought together allow the use of a padlock to fasten both parts together and prevent their separation. In the case of double doors as used on a garage each door of the garage shall have fastened to it one of the two parts of the locking device. When the garage doors are placed in the closed position each of the locking device shall meet and mesh together to allow a padlock to be engaged and prevent their separation each peice of the locking device shall have as its body a angle iron or peice of steel bent at ninety degrees and be of sufficient length to recieve the eyelet and allow the use of securing said body to door. The eyelet shall have a flat face side and top to allow it to fit in the angle iron and there be welded to it. The side and top of the eyelet shall be at ninety degrees each to the face of the eyelet. The side of the eyelet shall abut to the top and face of the eyelet and this combination shall work for both the face and the top of the eyelet The face of the eyelet shall be of sufficient thickness so when the two faces are placed together they will allow the shackle of a padlock to pass through. The side and top of the eyelet shall have no upper limit placed on its thickness and this shall give it unlimited strength. When both eyelets are placed face to face there shall be an aperture at the bottom to allow the engagement of a padlock but there shall be no access anywhere else. The bolt holes in the angle iron shall be such that when a bolt is inserted the head of the bolt shall fit against the side of the angle iron and prevent its turning. Also there shall be provided a further angle iron welded to only one of the angle iron body members which will cover the top bolt of each member when the locking device is in its locked position. It shall also be made so one eyelet will overlay the other eyelet when the device is in its locked position. It is intended the invention shall be made of any material suitable for its correct function or fastened in any way desirable. The invention shall be now described by way of example Figure 1 shows the front elevation of each part of the locking device. Part one and two is the body member which the eyelets three and four are fixed to. The holes in the body members part one and two are so placed so the bolt heads rest against one side of the body member and prevents it being unfastened. The bolts are secured from the inside of the door which becomes inacessable once the door is closed and locked and thus prevent their release. The eyelets three and four are positioned on the body members one and two so the aperture for receiving the padlock is relative to each other. The eyelet number four shall extend in front of its face so when both eyelets are brought together to receive a padlock eyelet number four shall extend over eyelet number three and gover the gap left between the faces three and four Figure 2 is a side elevation of each part of the locking device and shows the holes in each face of the eyelet three and four which receives a padlock. Also shown is the side of body members one and two which the bolt head will rest against to prevent their turning and subsequent release.
Figure 3 is a front elevation of the locking device in its working position showing the eyelets lined up ready to receive a pad lock. Also shown is the bolt heads fitting against the side of parts one and two to prevent their turning and subsequent release Figure 4 shows the front elevation of the locking device with a modification part five added to part two which enables the fastening bolts to become hidden and prevent their attack from cutting tools. Part five overlays part three and one in the locked position Figure 5 shows a side elevation of the locking device where part five is shown formin g a box into which a nut will be placed to secure the holding bolt Figure 6 shows the locking device in its working position ready to receive a padlock. Part five is shown covering the upper bolts in parts one and two. It also shows the bolt heads resting against the side of the body members one and two which prevents their turning and subsequent release

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIMS It is the claim of the present invention to provide a locking device where the amount of material used for eyelets is unrestricted to make them very difficult to be cut through. It is also the claim of this present invention to provide a means to which the eyelet fastens which prevents the holding bolts being unfastened. It is also a further claim of the present invention to provide a means of hiding two of the holding bolts from view when the locking device takes up its locking position Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows CLAIMS It is the claim of the present invention to provide a locking device where the eyelet has three faces to allow extra material to be used without restricting the use of padlocks It is also the claim of the present invention to provide a means which the eyelet fastens which prevents the bolts being unfastened due to its side face It is also a claim of the present invention that when the eyelet is fastened to the holding element it prevents the side face which stop the bolts being unfastened from being bent away in a attempt to release bolts A further claim is to provide a cover to hide the top bolts from view to add further protection from would be predators and cover the gap between the two eyelets
