Abstract
The pushchair frame is fitted with a seat 6 which is able to be folded with the handle by means of a hinge mechanism 7 to a position 9. The seat back may be fixed in various positions 5 in order to alter the seat angle. A moveable stand 4 is provided near the handle end of the frame and a footrest (3, Fig. 1) and guard (1) are provided near the wheel in order to protect the occupants legs. Wing nuts on the wheel axle permit wheel removal. <IMAGE>
Description
SINGLE WHEELED FOLDING PUSHCHAIR
This invention relates to a single wheeled folding pushchair. Pushchair are familiar devices comprised of a frame supported by at least two wheels and fitted with handles by means of which the pushchair can be propelled and controlled. Secured to the frame is a body or seat designed to carry a person.
Existing types of pushchair are heavy and unsuitable for use on rough terrain or steep gradients and generally unsuitable for use over fields and hillsides.
According to the present invention there is a single wheeled pushchair comprising of a frame supported by a single wheel and two handles and a seat mounted on or within the frame. The frame and seat are able to be folded by means of a hinge mechanism, the wheel is able to be removed and a pivoting stand is fitted at the handle end of the frame.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
FIGURE 1 shows a plain view of the pushchair in its operating
position.
FIGURE 2 shows in side elevation the pushchair in its operating
position and in its folded position as illustrated
by the dotted lines. The stand is shown in its
operating position.
Referring to the drawing the pushcahir comprises a frame 8 with a single wheel 2 releasably secured at one end of the frame by, for example, wing nuts threaded onto the wheel spindle. A fabric seat 6 is attached to the frame such that it is able to be folded together with the handle end of the frame by means of a pivoting and locking mechanism 7 allowing these components to hing into a folded position 9.
The seat angle is able to be adjusted by means of various fixing points 5 on a component of the folding mechanism 7. A foot rest 3 and leg guard 1 for the person riding in the pushchair may be provided as illustrated.
A moveable stand II is provided near the handle end of the frame.
Claims (5)
1. A single wheeled folding pushchair comprising a frame with a
releasable single wheel, a seat and a means to fold the frame
and seat.
2. A single wheeled folding pushchair as claimed in claim 1
wherein the folding mechanism incorporates means by which the
seat angle may be fixed in various positions.
3. A single wheeled folding pushchair as claimed in claim 1 or
claim 2 wherein a footrest and/or leg guard is provided at
the wheel end of the frame.
4. A single wheeled folding pushchair as claimed in claim 1 or
claim 2 or claim 3 wherein a stand or rest is provided by
means of which the pushchair may be supported when not in use.
5. A single wheeled folding pushchair substantially as described
herein with reference to figures 1 and 2 of the accompanying
drawing.
