Abstract

An information display sheet, such as a menu for use in a restaurant is 'personalised' by having one or more self-adhesive photographic labels 15 adhered thereto, the sheet and photograph being encapsulated between transparent plastic sheets laminated therewith. INFORMATION DISPLAY This invention concerns an information display sheet such as, for example, a menu as might be used in a restaurant, public house or similar establishment.

It is possible to purchase pre-printed menu cards which might include an attractive full-colour design of food stuffs or the like on a part thereof.

These can also be over-printed with lists of dishes available and prices to meet a particular customer's requirement in a single colour at reasonable cost or completed in manuscript by the customer himself at the time of use.

A problem with such pre-printed material is that it does little to promote the establishment where it is displayed. At best the name of the establishment telephone number and so might be included in any overprinting provided. To have unique and multi-color artwork design incorporated is quite costly and beyond the means of all but the more prosperous establishments.

The present invention is based upon an appreciation of the possibility of incorporating a photograph into information display sheets as a means of overcoming the problem aforesaid.

According to the present invention there is provided an information display sheet comprising a printed substrate having at least one photograph adhered thereto, the substrate and photograph being encapsulated between sheets of transparent plastics sheet material laminated therewith.

The substrate may be of paper or card.

The photograph may be a self-adhesive label.

The information display sheet might comprise a menu for a restaurant, public house or similar establishment.

When the menu is for a public house the photograph may be of the traditional inn-sign of the establishment and this may be incorporated within a suitable frame pre-printed on the substrate.

The invention will be further apparent from the following description, with reference to the several figures of the accompanying drawings, which show, by way of example only, one form of menu card embodying same: Of the drawings: Figure 1 shows a front view of a pre-printed substrate; Figure 2 shows the substrate of Figure 1 with a photographic label adhered thereto; and Figure 3 shows a cross-section through the completed menu card.

Referring first to Figure 1 it will be seen that the substrate 10 comprises a rectangle of card material pre-printed with a suitable border design 11 which may be in full colour incorporating a frame 12 surrounding a space 14. In this example, the frame 12 depicts that for a traditional inn-sign.

The menu card is customised to the requirements of a particular public house by being overprinted in a single colour at 16 with the list of dishes available and their prices and by having a photograph 15 of the inn-sign of the public house adhered to the substrate 10 within the frame 14 (see Figure 2).

The photograph 15 may be a self-adhesive photographic label such as those prepared in a range of standard sizes and at a modest cost by S & M (Processing) Limited of Braintree, Essex from a customers negative.

The substrate 10 and photograph 15 are encapsulated between sheets 17 and 18 of transparent plastics material laminated therewith.

.The complete laminate is stiff and durable and provides a surface on which the proprietor of the establishment may write additional information or indeed the entire menu if desired thus eliminating the need for overprinting at 16. Special pens filled with quick-drying ink are available. The ink can be wiped away when required with methylated spirits or other solvent.

It will be appreciated that it is not intended to limit the invention to the above example only, many variations, such as might readily occur to one skilled in the art, being possible, without departing from the scope thereof.

Claims (4)

1. An information display sheet comprising a printed substrate having at least one photograph adhered thereto, the substrate and photograph being encapsulated between sheets of transparent plastics material laminated therewith.

2. An information display sheet according to claim 1 wherein the substrate is of paper.

3. An information display sheet wherein the substrate is of card.

4. An information display sheet according to any preceding claim and being a menu.

4. An information display sheet according to any preceding claim wherein the photograph comprises a self-adhesive photographic label.

5. An information display sheet according to any preceding claim and being a menu.

Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows

1. An information display sheet comprising a printed substrate having at least one self-adhesive photographic label adhered thereto, the substrate and photograph being encapsulated between sheets of transparent plastics material laminated therewith.

2. An information display sheet according to claim 1 wherein the substrate is of paper.

3. An information display sheet wherein the substrate is of card.
