Abstract

A focal plane leaf shutter, adapted for connection to the housing of a photographic camera, comprising a main plate (3) on which are mounted the groups of leading opening and trailing closing leaves (4,5) together with their drive members, an auxiliary plate (7) connected to the main plate by spacer bolts (6) and a cocking lever (9) for the drive members which is rotatable about a cocking spindle which has an end mounted in the auxiliary plate. A spring shackle (11) is provided which is fixed by means of a journal (12) on the auxiliary plate (7) to pivot parallel with the plane thereof. The spring shackle (11) may be bent at a right-angle to the plane of the said auxiliary plate (7), the free end of the spring shackle (11) being provided with an eccentrically inclined elongated hole (13) for securement to the camera housing. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Focal plane leaf shutter The invention relates to a focal plane leaf shutter comprising, adapted to be connected to the housing of a photographic camera, a main plate on which are mounted the groups of leading opening and trailing closing leavestogetherwith their drive members, an auxiliary plate connected to the main plate by spacer bolts and a cocking leverforthe drive members which is rotatable about a cocking spindle which has at least one end mounted inthe auxiliary plate.
Known shutters of this type (DE-AS 2645652) are fixed in the camera housing by means of their main plate, while the auxiliary plate provided to form bearing points particularly for the cocking lever, is con nected to the main plate by spacer bolts. The force needed to cockthe shutter provides, due to the distance from the cocking lever to the main plate, a bending momentforthe spacer bolts and thus the danger of an elastic variation in the location ofthe auxiliary plate. This stress is particularly critical when a motorised winder is used. This necessitates a strong construction ofthe auxiliary plate and of the spacer bolts.
By avoiding the said bending stresses, the inven tion sets out to achieve a lighter construction ofthe said type of shutter.
The object of the invention is to provide a stable fitment of the shutter in the camera housing. Accord- ing to the invention, this is achieved in that fixed by means of a journal on the auxiliary plate and adapted to pivot parallel with the planethereofthere is a spring shackle which can be bent at a right-angletothe plane of the said auxiliary plate, the free end ofthe spring shackle being provided with an eccentrically inclined elongated hole. Such a spring shackle braces the auxiliary plate against the camera hous- ing and can atthesametimecompensateforany production-based positional differences between the auxiliary plate and its point of attachment in the camera housing. It is expedientforthe spring shackle to be disposed in rotatable fashion in the camera housing, by the use of a fixing screw. As a result of a different embodiment, the spring shackle is rotatable on the auxiliary plate by means of a rivet.
The invention is explained with reference to an embodiment which is described hereinafter and which is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is an overall view of a shutter according to the invention; Figure2 is an enlarged section in the region ofthe cocking lever; Figure 3 is an enlarged individual view of the spring shackle and Figure4shows a further disposition ofthe spring shackle.
Fixed by means of the screw2 in a partially illustrated camera housing 1 (Figure 2) is the main plate 3 on which, in known manner, are mounted the groups of leading opening leaves 4 and trailing closing leaves 5 together with their drive mechanism (Figure 1). Spa cer bolts 6 rigidly connect the auxiliary plate 7 to the main plate3. Mounted inthe main plate3and inthe auxiliary plate 7 is the cocking spindle 8 aboutwhich the cocking lever 9 for the drive mechanism is rotatable. The auxiliary plate 7 furthermore serves for mounting ofthecontrol members 10forthedrive mechanism which operates under spring force. Con nected by the rivet 12to the auxiliary plate7 istheflat spring shackle 11 (Figure 3), which is rotatable with difficulty about the rivet 12.At its other end, the spring shackle 11 comprises an elongated hole 13which extends eccentrically at an angle (x of 90 . The el- ongated hole 13 serves to accommodate a further fixing screw 14which is likewise anchored in the camera housing 1.
The arrangement operates in the following way: The shutter is fixed in the camera housing by means of its main plate 3 and the screws 2. Thus, the shutter has assumed its function-dictated location in the camera housing 1. Without varying this location, it is possible by stiff pivoting of the spring shackle 11, to bring the elongated hole 13 into a position coincident with the threaded bore provided in the camera housing 1 for the fixing screw 14.Differences in height which may occurthereby between the plane ofthe auxiliary plate 7 and the plane of the camera housing 1 in the region ofthe said threaded bore are compensated by the spring shackle 11 which, by virtue of its elastic property, can move aside at a right-angletothe plane ofthe auxiliary plate 7. Inthis position the spring shackle 11 is fixed by means of thefurtherfixing screw 14. Thus, also theauxiliary plate 7 is anchored in respect of the camera housing 1 sufficiently that upon movement of the cocking lever 9 against the drive springs for the shutter mechanism, the bending moment arising is absorbed by the spring shackle 11.
In accordance with a further embodiment (see Figure 4), the spring shackle 11 is anchored in the camera housing 1 by means ofthefurtherfixing screw 14, while the eccentrically inclined elongated hole 13 is connected to the auxiliary plate 7 the screw 15. With this arrangement, an easy pivoting of the spring shackle 11 is possible until such time as the fixing screw 14has beentightened.
