Abstract

Aspirating - apparatus, ejector; regulating or controlling action.-The rate of delivery of induced gas varies with the pressure of the inducing fluid (typically steam) in the manner shown in Fig. 1, in which the curves A, B, and C indicate this relationship for successively lower inducing-fluid pressures. respectively. In order to produce the most favourable rate of delivery, means are provided in the supply passage of the inducing fluid to vary the inducing-pressure in a predetermined manner. The invention is shown applied to both stages of a two-stage ejector in which the inducing-fluid supply passages 3, 14, feeding the two stages respectively, each divide into three passages 4 - - 6 and 15 - - 17 all provided with shutoff valves 7. The passages 6 and 17 are unrestricted throughout their length, but, in the other passages, plates 12, Fig. 3, having differently-sized orifices 10 are inserted, so that by the action of the operator in opening one of the valves 7 in each stage and shutting off the remainder, selected predetermined pressures may be given to the inducing fluid on its way to the nozzles N, thus providing that the operating characteristic of that stage may successively approximate to the outlines of the curves A, B and C. The inventdon may be applied to the construction of ejector described in Specification 114,131.
