Abstract

A cylindrical decomposable seed pot is made of a decomposable material 6 with open top and sealed bottom. A plant growing medium 7 is retained therein but leaving a clear space around the top thus forming a circular wall protruding above the medium 11 to help protect a young seedling. A number of such pots are located in packaging and are kept therein while the seeds are sown and germinate. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Decomposable seed pot This invention relates to a decomposable seed pot. Seed trays, plastic plant pots, are all well known implements for sowing seed. There is a special type of plant pot made from peat, which is mainly used on plants that dislike root disturbance. Peat pots are, however, relatively expensive. Moreover they are not designed for planting out seedling in rows outside.
According to the present invention, there is provided a decomposable seed pot comprising, a cylindrical decomposable substance with open top and a sealed base. Filled but not right to the top, with a seed growing medium, this is to protect the young seedlings when just emerging. This invention would be used for planting flower or vegetable seeds putting in a cold frame and waiting until the seeds germinated and started growing, thus only growing seed would be placed out into the vegetable rows.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:- Figure. 1 shows in perspective, the seed pot with the growing medium filled, but leaving a clear margin around the top.
Figure 2 illustrates the seed planted in growing medium.
Figure 3 shows the decomposable pot in its correct position, when planted in the ground.
Figure 4 shows pots in packaging before each individual pot is removed for planting out, after seeds have germinated.
Referring to the drawing the pot 6 would be made of a decomposable material with a growing medium within. The pots would be soaked with water first and then the seeds would be planted 8, but still in main packaging 9 only planting the pots that have germinated seed 10. The space between the top, and the top of the growing medium 12, in Fig. 2, acts as a windbreak to the young seedlings when planted out. 11 is the top of the decomposable seed pot.
1.A A decomposable seed pot comprising a cylindrical decomposable substance.
2. A decomposable seed pot as claim 1 with an open top, and a sealed base.
3. A decomposable seed pot as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, where in a growing medium is inside, but leaving a clear space around the top.
4. A decomposable seed pot as claimed in claim 2 or claim 3, wherein the gap between the top of the pot and the growing medium is a protective barrier to a young seedling.
5. A decomposable seed pot as claimed in claim 4 wherein the pots would be in packaging, holding many such decomposable pots.
6. A decomposable seed pot as claimed in any preceding claim wherein only seeds that germinated need be planted out.
7. A decomposable seed pot substantially as described with reference to Figures 1-4ofthe accompanying drawing.
