Abstract

A carrycot comprises a rectangular base 10 with upstanding sides 11, 12 and an end wall 13 and at the other end, a hood 14 formed of upstanding side walls 19, 20 and an end wall and a horizontal top section 14a thereover, all the walls and top section being formed as a plurality of cardboard panels enclosed within two layers of a suitable material, the layers being riveted together along lines between adjoining panels. When the carrycot is not in use, it may be folded up to form a bag for carrying, for example, shopping or articles for a baby. The cot is folded by releasing turn buckles 27 at the base of the hood pushing the side and end walls to lie flat against the base of the cot, folding the collapsed body into the hood and securing it by in that position by zip fasteners 21, along the front edges of the sides of the hood. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Combined carrycot and bag The invention relates to a combined carrycot and bag.
According to the invention, a combined carrycot and bag comprises a carrycot having a rectangular base with upstanding sides and end wall and at the other end a hood formed of upstanding side walls and end wall and a horizontal top section thereover, all the walls and the top section being formed as a plurality of panels enclosed within two layers of material, the layers being riveted together along lines between adjoining panels to facilitate folding of the carrycot, zip fasteners being provided along the front edges of both sides of the hood to secure the panels when folded into the hood to form a bag.
The invention will be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the combined carrycot and bag in the unfolded condition as a carrycot; Figure 2 is a perspective view of the same embodiment showing the carrycot partially folded; and Figure 3 is a perspective view of the same embodiment in the fully folded condition forming a bag.
One construction of a combined carry-cot and bag is shown in Fig. 1 in the unfolded condition as a carrycot comprising a horizontally held rectangular base 10 and two side walls 11, 12 an end wall 13 and a hood 14 upstanding therefrom. All the upstanding portions are formed of stiffened cardboard panels covered by a plastics material bearing a design.
There is a single panel in the end wall 13, four panels 15, 16, 1 7 1 8 in each side wall 11, 12 one panel in each side 19, 20 of the hood 14 and one larger panel 14a forming the back and top of the hood 14. The interior and exterior layers of plastics material are riveted together along lines between the cardboard panels and the side panels 1 8 adjacent the panel in the end wall 1 3 are formed triangular to facilitate folding of the carrycot.
Zip fasteners 21, 22 are provided along the respective front edge of each side of the hood and the corresponding adjacent bottom edges of the side walls 11, 1 2 of the carrycot.
Handles 23 of plastics material are provided at both sides of the carrycot body and a further handle 24 extends between the sides 19, 20 of the carrycot hood 1 4. The side edges at the top of the hood 14 are not permanently attached by stitching to the rest of the hood 14; instead, the top of the hood 14 is secured to the sides 19, 20 of the hood 1 4 and held substantially horizontal by means of press fasteners 25 carried on corner flaps 26. The side walls 11, 12 of the main body of the carrycot are not permanently attached nor continuous with the vertically extending sides 19, 20 of the hood 1 4 but extend inside the lower portion of the hood 1 4 and are secured by respective turn buckle 27 protruding through a hole 28 in respective hood sides 19, 20.
When the carrycot is not being used for holding a baby, it may be folded to provide a bag or holdall, which is smaller and more convenient to carry.
The aforementioned operation may be effected in the manner illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3. The turn buckles 27 at the base of the hood 14 and the press fasteners 25 on the corner flaps 26 at the top of the hood 14 are released. The side handles 23 are flapped over to lie inside the cot and the side walls 11 and 1 2 and end wall 1 3 of the cot are collapsed inwards and lie flat against the base 10 of the cot. The collapsed body of the cot is then folded in half and the fold line indicated by reference numeral 29 raised to bring all the material within the hood 1 4.
The clasps of the zip fasteners 21, 22 extending along the front edge of the hood sides 1 9 and 20 are drawn upwards to secure the folded cot body in this position. The top of the hood 14 now forms the lid of a bag or holdall, which may be closed by the corner flap press fasteners 25, and the handle 24 extending between the hood sides 1 9 and 20 now forms a handle or shoulder strap for the bag which may conveniently be used for storing and carrying items such as nappies, bottles, toys, clothes or shopping.
In further embodiments the carrycot/bag may be formed of any suitable material, for example, canvas or other woven material, and the material and arrangement of the panels may vary in any suitable manner.
In the body of the carrycot a removable, plastics covered foam mattress or any other suitable mattress may be located.
Also an apron, removably securable by means of movable clasp or press fasteners or the like, may be attached to the side walls to cover and protect any child placed in the cot.
